Title: Jeep Rescue
Post by: Red Defender on March 14, 2007, 09:44:12
Rescued a brand new jeep yesterday - the owner had decided to take it wading through a ford in odiham,

trouble is the water is running about 2 foot deep at the moment and his car sucked a hole lot of water into the air intake !

its a series of 2 fords in a row and seeing as he was stuck between the 2 i towed him through to the other side so the AA or whoever could get to him.

kicked myself that id taken my camera out of my car in the morning id would have made some lovely pictures

I agree, well deserved.

I would love to see a bigger selection of stickers in the MC shop. I know they can be made to order, but might i suggest that all good custom stickers are added to the catalogue for others to choose/copy? That is if any MC admin read this post!

(It might make more money for the site  :D )

it just goes to show that these alleged offroaders are not being designed to cope with adverse conditions

Hmm. Two feet of water isn't exactly the River Ganges is it?

Through a ford near Danbury in Essex recently i managed to get the Ka through well over a foot of the wet stuff.

Not been through those fords for years, the longer one has all the kids playing in it during the summer, they used to enjoy the 4x4's turning up so they could surf the bow wave

mental note, go through them next time you leave Aldershot on the way to Basingstoke

Have a look here

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?gride=472800&gridn=152000&scale=25000&coordsys=gb

or

http://vamp.idlers.org/~jaffa/hampshire.htm

Under Warnborough

Used to be fun so guess they still are, but gravel bottom so not too hot or like the jeep can get a wash over, as it says water depth doesn't really change much, but a good place to clean off after a day out on the lanes and there used to be some good ones not far from there as well, but like the water, not been there for a few years

Doesn't look that bad in the summer, but with spring rain?
Not as evil looking as the one shown at Wattons Ford on the lower Avon. Being a complete coward, that one gives me the willies just looking at it.
It looks like the sort of place where Trolls or nasty things might live!

2 feet of water   I've been through deeper in a Vectra

It was a hire car though.

it was obviously to deep for his air intake ! or he did something stupid like stop in the middle ! - the classic line he had was "its ok for you you've got a proper 4 wheel drive" - i wore a little smirk after that

It's true - nothing drives quite like a hire car. They go further, go faster and go harder than any car we would buy ourselves. I once drove a Renault Twingo on rural farming dirt tracks in France that really were designed for a 4x4. True enough it managed it with pride although i wouldn't like to have seen the state of the underside on return
