looking at getting some diff guards, and a steering guard, for my td5 disco.
where would be the best place to look?
ive seen some qt diff guards, but not any steering guards.
all i seem to find is stuff for the disco 1.
i am all so thinking about getting a winch bumper, but looking threw the mags can only see them for disco 1s,
theres probally loads in the mags, but i just cant see the woods for the trees!!!

Yes, there are a bewildering amount of different manufacturers fo the type of kit you want.
Diff guards, I and many others prefer what's become known as the bikini style, basically copies of the QT ones with rock slider on the rear to protect the prop. They do come cheaper than QT though.
All the rage at donnington show was a combination of the clamp on type that used to be what everyone had with the bikini type, so giving the best protection all round.
The downside with clapn on type is they hold muck next to the diff pan causing rust and can be pulled off when you actually need them most ie when scraping a rock.
Steering guards, so many choices. Pick a few you like, wait for answers here from the TD5 owners, go to your pub meet and ask those guys. It's probably a matter of taste anyway, they all do the job.

thanks for the info,
i shall keep a lookout for some cheeper diff guards, but in the same style as the qt ones.
ill just wait to see what the other td5 owners have on theres and go from there.

i was under the ramps at me mates today with a disco2 up in the air, that had qt diff guards, and as i dont sell em yet!, i have to say they are the best i have seen by a long way, well manufactured and designed, they are by the sounds of it dearer than the rest, but have to say, i think its worth it.
they were the ones that bolt to the castings, not them wrap around ring type ones.

TD5 axles are difrent from the earlyer stuff, from what iv been finding out resently you have 2 options for a diff guard. firstly the qt style ones. and scondly a pan style one but it must be spot welded over the top of the origanal pan rather than the traditional clamp on things.
As for steering guards you will have a crush can at the frount on each chassis leg, im not sure were the guard bolts round this.
I have a good friend who is doing this and a lot more to his 02 plate TD5 at the moment, he has spoken at length to jj from frog island 4x4 about all the opions. I will speak to him over the week end and see if he has any pearls of wisdom.
good luck with it

Anybody have a link for QT? I've tried my search engine without luck.
