Well, ABS light has been on now for a while so thought i best sort it as MOT is coming up. Using the very helpful ABS Fault codes guide on here i did the check (after finally finding the diagnostic plug) and the result was 2-6.
So i need to check the Brake light switch?? where do i fond this, and how do i check it, as per the "Remedy" i am getting 2 click when i operate the pedal, and the brake lights are coming on (after fixing one that had had a problem and melted the plastic around the contacts)
Also, the test is now not showing any more errors, i.e. there is about a 7.5 second pause in the blink test, but the ABS light is still not going out when driving?
All advice welcome as usual.
Thanks.

Hi
is there an ABS reset button or like a paper clip to short the connections
or disconnect the battery
mind you i thought the system checked everytime the engine
was started for faults and if none present put the light out
it may be you have another fault not showing up
on the blink test
cheers
steve

abs can only be turned of by computer and the light will soon pop back up like it did on my mums :(

This doc explains how to read and clear the fault codes. I suggest you clear all the faults, go for a drive and then check it again.

Richard,
Thanks for that a very good document, as far as i can see from your document, that is what i have done, i got the 2-6 code and there are no more codes showing. The 2-6 code is the pedal switch? this is clicking twice as stated, the fuse is OK, and i don't know how to test it further?
I have done the blink test and taken vehicle for a run, i have done this a number of times now, each time the blink test now shows no error, i.e. i get a long pause when the error blinks should show, but the ABS light still does not go out when i drive over 7 MPH?
any more advice please?

Wiring fault or relay fault IIRC. I had one with a similar fault.

OK, i can start there thanks, relay cant be that expensive, and worth a try, wiring??? now that could be more of a challenge :?

I was just diving in to that myself as I had a strange fault with my ABS light on a car I've just bought.
Turned out that rather than fix the ABS some t** had connected the warning light to the alternator light to fool the MOT man, never mind the brakes didn't work

Sounds like the front wheel sensors have given up the ghost. Best way to check them is to disconnect them at the connector in the engine bay and put a multimeter across the two cables in the connector leading down to the sensor, you should be reading about 900ohms across the sensor. If this is the case, with the multimeter still connected waggle the flexible cable (by the swivel joint) coming from the sensor, if the reading goes up and down then the conductors inside the flexible cable from the sensor have broken. Then the only thing to do is an expensive replacement. If the readings do not change check to see if there is any swarf on the sensor (undo the brake pipe bracket and prise out the sensor). Clean it off and push it back in fully (driving will reset the air gap). Failing that it may be the ABS control module which i don't know how to check!

An intermittant sensor fault would sho up on the blink test. The things that casue the light to not go out at all are the relay that controls it (most likley) the pressure switch on the ABS pump or the ECU. Otherwise it's wiring.

I have a new relay to try, if no change i will attempt to check wiring, otherwise its a trip to the garage :(

Fitted new relay, and light going out as it should again :) thank god for that.
Now the front bearings (i hope not swivel housing bearings) and then MOT
Thanks all for your help.
