I thought this had come up before but I can't find it by searching - only fitting TD5 headlights to a TDI.
How easy is it to fit the later MY Range-Rover-style headlights onto a 1999 TD5 Discovery? I know it's not a straight swap, but was wondering how much fiddling there is.
I was thinking of upgrading my bulbs, but it's the beam pattern which lets them down really, so I thought it might be better just to upgrade the lot. I see a couple of people (Simmonites and TD5alive) offer a service for about £650 but I'm not spending that.

i nearly did this to a td5 and the guy i was going to do it for got hold of a cd-rom with a lot of instructions (ebay i think) which was quite comprehensive i thought, it didnt look a bad job if you had the tools to hand and the balls to chop your disco about as its a one way trip i seem to remember :? once you,ve cut the old panel to make the new lights fit you couldnt return it to the old lights
in the end he couldnt find the lights for the right price so i,ve not done it personally

TD5alive will sell a CD-ROM with the instructions, but I don't want to part with any money until I've found out how much effort it is and how much it'll cost. Plus I'd rather get the instructions for free from somebody else who has done it already!

Have a chat with Mark @ Discoparts. He did the conversion to his old TD5. Quite a bit of work to do it properly IIRC.

Depends on how practical you are, converted my mrs headlights not long ago. What would make it well easy if you could buy the connectors for the new headlamps off the shelf, some are on ebay for a arm n leg.The cd i followed was good but he was a bit of a animal the way he cut the panel out. With the right tools you will have no probs.

I'm very tempted by this. A guy on eBay is selling both CD-ROMs at the moment so I've made an offer. Might have to wait a while for the headlamp units to come up though... unless anybody sells them new for a reasonable price.

So what's the problem with simply fitting some 'auxilliary' lighing . . . . or is the Td5 coversion just for the cosmetic looks?
Doubtless will cost more to replace in the even of a prang as well . . .

This started when I realised that to do a good job of fitting spotlights, plus all the other stuff I'd want to do at the time (work light, CB etc) would be quite a big & expensive job. New headlights would be a neater & more aesthetic solution. But I just called Brookwells and the headlight units alone are £150 +VAT per side, so this could work out pricey unless I can find a pair elsewhere.
