Title: Mud Tyres
Post by: seabo on March 29, 2007, 18:55:59: Fed up of doing Torvill and Dean impressions at trials so going for mud tyres = 265/75 x 16s - but do not want to spend a fortune

But Grizly Claws v Anacondas???

Are Grizzly Claws really worth an extra 100 quid for a full set?

Or is there something else?

Post by: Dr Neil on March 29, 2007, 20:39:30: is this for a purely of road vehicle as i think the anaconda's are NOT road legal and the Grizzly Claws aren't speed rated.Someone on here will put a link up to a tyre report about the Grizzly's.

not wishing to put a damper on things but i thought you should know.

Having said that i had a pair of Grizzly's on the back of my series 3 (so speed rating wasn't such an issue) and when they were off road they were great.

You thought about the simex copies that are about at the mo? Big tyre for a Disco though.......

I think the Kumho's come in a more limited set of sizes? I spent ages trying to decide on tyres, especially in an attempt to save money. But eventually, I decided that the extra cost for the BFG MT's was worth it - good performance on and off road, very long lasting, very strong.

Ã‚Â£500 is a hell of a lot of money to fork out at once (and to get past the home office :wink: ) But I guess tyres are not something to be compromised on cos you can't do much if your skating everywhere?

Best deal I've been offered,recently, for BFG 12.5/33's was from Mark Sowden at Drighlington, (Sowden Tyres ), he does a few more tyres than than just Colways. Worth ringing him and having a chat :wink:

Been thinking about them 285/85 BFG's again asell . . . . . for when the 265's are worn out . . . . or maybe Simex . . . . and bust a shaft or two :lol:

A specialist dealer. I got mine from AJS 4x4 (http://www.ajstyres.co.uk/) in Surrey.

Let us know where you are and hopefully someone can give you a local supplier.

Depends what you want from your tyres really . . . be it mileage or off-road performance.

I've known a few running Khumo and whilst they are a good all rounder . . . . when the chips are down, they don't cut the mustard with 'proper' stuff. . . . . much like BFG's really :lol:

But hey . . . . . horses for courses :wink:

Post by: Lyndsey731 on March 30, 2007, 10:15:11: Got to agree with the comments on here, BFG's excellent all rounder but it's a mud tyre not what you would describe as an extreme mud tyre. I run 235/85 grizzly's and they are an excellent budget tyre, the massive shoulder lugs are great in the mud, just be careful with your arches they will hit on full articulation. As for on the road noisy and twitchy in the wet. It comes down to whether you want to go fast on the road or just about anywhere in the mud.

If you look in my gallery (sorry no idea how to post pics) you can see how a 235/85 Bronco sits in a standard arch before it was cut compared to the standard tyre that is still on the front, quite a difference!

check out RECIP Trial tyres, mickey thompson copies, i was going to get them but splashed out on bfgs, but saw them in the flesh last week, they are awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ã‚Â£50-Ã‚Â£60/tyre. tyres direct or expedition999 on ebay!!!!
