Title: Help with power steering on my Disco
Post by: stevepage3 on March 29, 2007, 19:32:53
Hi

My power steering seems to be a bit lumpy, What I am trying to say is it is not smooth when you turn the steering wheel. could this be air in the system ? the reservoir is full.

Any ideas

Steve

Don't think it is the uj's seems to be something to do with the power steering.

Go under the bonnet spry loads of wd on your steering shaft & uj's then try it, if it gets better the uj's are gone,

Just like mine  :(

I had a similar problem on an old discovery, I changed the pump with no effect, then the lower steering connection as I had a work UJ but that didnt help, I then changed the box and it was brand new.  Mine also used to cut out and you had to sort of nudge the steering wheel before it picked up, similar feeling to a slipping belt.  You should also check all the ball joints on the steering rods too specially the one at the bottom of the drop arm which is a critical one, if it goes you will loose all steering, have seen this happen and it really isnt funny.
