Can you swap them in situ? The rearmost one on the drivers side of Piglet is blowing - and it's annoying me.
I'm loath to have the lot dropped tho ... so any hints?

There are two ways the manifold can be held on..........
1- With nuts the heads have studs in them (will have to take off manifold)
2- With bolts straight into the heads (yes you can but its a bit of a fiddle)
I woulld personnally loosen all of them and change them all
But thats just me
Good luck :? :)

It's a 4.6 V8 so it is bolted - with individual gaskets per 2 bolts...

Thrasher... I managed this on our RRC 1994 3.9efi. Replaced them with the double gaskets... one gasket per two exhaust ports. It was fiddly as hell and there were times I was preying for supermans fingers... but I got it done in the end.

Neil
you could smear it was copius amounts of gun gum!

You can't bodge them thay need swapping.
You can try just loosening the head to manifold bolts but you need to swapp all 4 gaskets, they don't seem to like being disturbed.
I find the back 2 bolts often come loose, the ones that are a pain to get to

The two on the passenger side rear do ... but not the driver side on mine. So I best buy all 4 then...ok

I have just done my passenger side manifold gaskets........... 3.5EFi.......
It was a bit fiddly (and I ended up stripping one of the head threads, but that's another story).......... but with bolts it is possible to do them in situ.
Support the exhaust system on a jack at the y-piece........ you can then move it up and down a bit to get the bolts lined up easy........ and you can put pressure on the wing to do the same.
I am a spanner numpty, but it was easy for me.

You don't need to take all of the bolts out at the same time either, you just need enough space to slide the gasket in. Unfortunatley once disturbed they don't like to re-seal.
I've takne to using the twin-port type that LR themselves introduced. I had some really good composite types from Rimmer but unfortunatley they weren't stamped very accurately and started to blow at the corners.

I have the P38a ones (the twin ones). Should be able to fit them soon (time permitting)
