Alright, so I wanted to run this by you guys to see what you thought, since many of you seem to know a thing or two about Land Rovers.
I asked my dealer about one of those EGR plugs I've seen advertised, and he suggested I save my money and just disconnect the thin hose that leads to the relay that controls the EGR. He said it should accomplish essentially the same thing.
Thoughts?

That's what I did.
THe EGR is electronically controlled with a vacum hose going from the soleniod to the EGR valve. I clipped that pipe and the ECU can do what it wants but the valve won't open.
Watch it in Japan though; the point of the EGR is to reduce NOx and they are very touchy on emmisions over there.

I guess that's why he recommended just unhooking (rather than cutting) the hose. Emissions are only checked once every 2 years at the inspection.
I thought I noticed a small increase in mid-range power, but I was wondering if it might just have been wishful thinking.

Yes it is, the amount of gas recircluated is tiny, it helps with low throttle emissions only.
What it will do is stop your inlet manifold (plenum) from filling with soot that mixes with the oil valpout from the engine breather to form a sort of black sludge.
Anyone got an idea how to stop the oil vapour getting into the air inlet, other than disconnect the breather?

The only thing I can really think of would be to fit a sepeator in the breather line.
Basically a big brillo pad between the cankcase and the inlet piping which would catch the oil (or at least most of it) then a drain back to the sump, or just drain it manually every so often.
Really I can't see why Land Rover (and every other manafacturer) don't do that.

they do
thats whats basically inside the black plastic collector on the side of the head on the 200 & 300s

That's what I thought, it's not working then  so I might fit a flame trap into the line too (brillo pad)/. Otherwise it's a catch tank.
