the fuel gauge on my 83 rangie has stopped was working fine yesterday till I cut the arches off. weird!!
any areas to quickly check over before looking into a new sender?
the low fuel warning still lights up just the guage doesn't move :(
-
Yeah... check you've not cut the cables from the sender!
**Gets his coat.....

That does sound rather like a cut cable. The light will stay on as it thinks the light will just stay on as it will think the tank is MT
-
cant find any cut wires and the light flashes as its running low on fuel its not on constantly as the fuel is not that low yet.
would there be a dodgy fuse for it?
where is the sender located on the tank??
-
Usually in the middle on top of the tank but then you haven't said which RR you have got.
-
ill have a look around it.
but all I can see is something on the passenger side of the tank.
it was originally a 'A' plate V8 auto but is now a isuzu 2.8TD manual.
so not sure what parts its got. :(
-
checked all connection and 1 was slightly loose so made that a bit tighter but still no luck :(
were off to devon the weekend too not good not knowing how much deisel i got !!
-
Fill it up and see if the light goes off.
The sender is on the passenger's side of the tank, the pump is in the top.
The guage works in the usual way but the light works from the same signal via some clever electricery on the backof the dash, so unbless it thinks you are dead empty I'd guess it's the guage that's wrong.
I'll double check the wring diagram later though to be sure.

just put £65 of diesel in and the guage is showing just over quarter of a tank !!!!! :? :? :? :? :?
-
That's about right
Seriously though, dodgy connection making the resistance higher, if the tank is full then there is no resistance, try connecting the fuel tank sender wire to ground and see if the guage goes all the way up.
