Title: Wing top chequer plate fitting
Post by: Jimbo on April 03, 2007, 09:51:31
Is there any benefit from using a bead of silicone around the edge of the chequer plate when fitting wing tops ?

I was thinking that it might stop the crud from getting under the plate and causing problems - or am I better off with no silicone so that any water under the plate can drain away ?

If you just put a few blobs under the plate you should get the best of both worlds, no vibration and water able to move arround?

I put chequere plate on my previous 90 without silicon and then on the new 110 with silicon. The difference is apparent as it is much more sound on the 110. Rather than just put a rim around the outside I also circled the pop rivits which meant that the silicon squished out of the rivits on tightening. I hope that this will stop any water getting in but who knows!!. If you see me in the futyre sitting at the side of the road with the wing tops fallen off then you will know that I was wrong!!
