Title: DII longevity
Post by: nzoliver on April 05, 2007, 09:46:03
OK !

I have a '99 DII V8i without SLS. It has 72000km on it.(44700miles). I would like to hear from anyone who has or has not had many issues with the major thinks listed on the relevant Landie sites. Things like front driveshaft, a/c drain leaks, head gaskets, sucking sounds from the dash, and ABS modulators.
I want to keep this truck   but if it is going to cost me plenty big moola then I don't want it anymore. I have read oll the stories on the net so far but I would like to know the ratio of people who have had more than 1 of the issues listed :(  versus the people who's vehicles have given sterling service.  :D

Thanks all. 8)

Mine's a TD5, 83,000 miles since 1999, but I've not encountered any of the things you mention.  On the other hand, for the last couple of services it's needed little things like oil seals and stuff doing, so it's not a drive-it-and-forget-about-it car as far as maintenance is concerned.

Your V8 engine should last forever.

You'll want to keep it when you see how much the road tax on a newer DII will be.

My old man has a TD5 which has had none of the above. 86000 miles and the biggest job so far is new tyres.
That is with ABS, SLS, ACE and whatever else they do.

2003 TD5, none of the problems listed above, still running smooth but as thermidorthelobster says, it's not a drive it and forget about it car.

If something breaks, starts rattling, making a funny noise, sort it out straight away and you'll be fine.
