Title: Discovery2 ABS Fault
Post by: hudders on April 05, 2007, 10:50:09
My D2 has the ABS, Hill decent, TC, Brake warning lights on. The local landrover garage plugged it into the Autologic computer it told them there was low voltage to the O/S/R speed sensor. This was changed but still the same problem, they are now talking of overlay cables which do away with any connections and go striaght from the hub to the ECU. Please could anyone help. Thanks

Overlay cables are the "official" method of dealing with wiring faults these days.  Rather than try to find the actual problem, the wire is effectively replaced, end to end, with a second wire, and the original left in situ as being too difficult/expensive to replace.

But generally, with any diagnostic system, the principles are the same: if it ain't the sensor, it's the wiring to it.

It should be possible to do the overlay wiring yourself as a DIY job giving a wiring manual if they're talking big £££

If you do the overlay cables as a DIY... label them at each end and a few other places along the length!

Save yourself and it's next owner some heartache in the future.

You can even get little rubber/plastic letter sets that slip over the cable... so you can actually put on the cable.... "earth connection to the left hand reversing widget".

I've worked on too many vehicles with home made wiring that has no labelling whatsoever... nightmare!    ](*,)

I think the fact that spare parts now come with effectively a new wiring loom is an admission that there is a problem.
