Title: That RAC thing ......
Post by: datalas on November 24, 2004, 20:47:04
You may or may not remember me making a passing reference to an incident with the RAC.

Well....

Got a letter from the NFU (the insurance company) this morning....

"The RAC have contacted us and informed us that the recovery was most likely in error and have, on this occasion decided to wave the charge for the recovery."

However...   they still want the call out charge because they did at least come out to the motor.... :(

Then, the NFU go on to say "because we managed to screw up the administration and handling of your complaint... erm... we'll pay that bit for you."

So in short......

RAC Baaaaaaad.........   NFU Gooooooooooood............

I got 18 months free RAC off them when they messed up with my caravan saying it wasn't covered and leaving me in the lurch.
whether 18 months free is a good thing is another matter.

 :(

Got both the Passat and the Defender with NFU. They had the Disco before that was changed for the Passat. Excellent service - got driven into about 2 days after the policy started and had no problems sorting it all out.

Previous 90 was with them as well.

However, I've just insured the Series 3 with Peter Best, as they only wanted £113 - NFU was about £260.

I'm with the AA as well - called them out once for the Defender, and once for a friends ford fiasco. Absolutely well impressed.

RAC seem to be a bit less professional (hearsay from friends) than AA. I got LR Assist with the Disco, but never used it, and haven't used the VW assistance with the Passat yet. Maybe one day  :(

Cheers

Ben

I was with the NFU for the 110Tdi, but when I bought the 90CSW-V8, hte premium increased by over £150! (for an older vehicle)
On buying the Discovery I contacted the NFU, I think they wanted circa £550.00 - Adrian Flux got the money at £288.00

They may well use them, but ISTR they added their support to the campaign for the banning of 4x4's from byways.
