No I'm getting lots of conflicting advice and I can not decide on what to buy... £2K is the max but hoping to spend less.
I'm thinking about a 200 or 300 Disco or a SWB Diesel Shogun manual. just cannot make up my mind, and SWMBO keeps making unhelpful suggestions, like get a fiesta! AAAGGGhhhhh

i've A disco 200tdi for sale...looking at £800, you can then spend a couple of hundred doing it up and spend the rest on the mrs..
-
Usable and solid Land Rover Series 2/2A with perhaps a 2.5 NA Diesel fitted. :D

Can you delete the post just incase she reads it!

What are you gonna use it for? On-road, off-road, or a bit of both?

Bit of both, just the odd green lane and daily commute too and from work... around 20 miles a day commute so not far. No V8's SWMBO would freak... I want a diesel.

for 2k your in 200 and 300 tdi disco territory - or Pajero swb, and just about lwb !
frontera?? swmbo loved hers - petrols are cheaper- but the2.3 td is often overlooked - but quite capable!
why not a RR with LPG?
plenty available - and going for peanuts lately!
-
2.8 swb Frontera, thats the one to go for
Ive only got the lwb as I need the room, they are solid as a rock :D

Just looked at that one on your Frontera's site, I thought they only did the SWB in a 2.0 petrol, It looks nice just bloody far away...
-
Gotta be a Disco. Solid lumps, cheap at the moment, will fulfil all your needs.
-
There is a cracker on ebay at the moment 2.8 but lwb £1600

Well guys I must say the Green oval is winning me over, I love my Zuk but like most off road fans fancy a Land rover to tinker with poke with a stick and cover in stickers.
-
MINES ON eBAY NOW...
-
well the thing with the disco is, take your zuk and then multiply it by 4, thats how much room you have in the drivers seat!

LOL thats one reason for buying one!

Go for a Disco. Will do what a 90 can do (prepares to duck from any incoming missiles  ) and with a bit more comfort and elbow room!

Funny you should say that every time I go out it's always the Discos and 90's that break down first
pajs and shoggies might get stuck but they rarely break down

Depend on whether you want to drive off-road when you want, or just be off the road all the time tinkering

quite agree....ive had both, but the 90 is the more practical and obvious choice for challenge and just general abuse

I have a disco 300 Thats modded and a standard 2.0 frontera sport and they both go over and though all the same bits on my play site ?
I have both so can comment.
Fontera £500
Disco £3000
Bit of difference really. They were never aimed at the hardcore offroad brigade and driven properly will go most places .
My fontera is about to have a 3" lift, 33" tyres arches and spacers, Oh and a 9500 winch and bumper to pull stuck LR owners out
My disco is for work so has to earn its keep and does so well but they are not cheap to mod or fix .
For your budget I would say 200 Tdi as they are simpler and are cheap enough to buy.
-
how about a mahindra or tata safari?????
:)
-
For @ a grand you can get a perfectly good XJ Cherokee and spend the rest on A/T's /Mt's of your choice plus a bit of underbody protection and have a extremely competent off road and on road vehicle thats well respected and a tad different from the mainstream..........

Don't you mean RELIABLE Jap crap, my Vitara never lets me down but the Landys that go on runs with me are always breaking down or falling apart :D :D :D

My point exactly !!!.

I know of a good 200TDi RRC manual. £2k will buy it IIRC.
