Ok, I might be wrong here, could be me just being cynical. Was bidding on something on eBay for work. On the bidding history it was only my name visible, the others were hidden. It gets to the point where it's more than we're willing to spend, so I stop putting bids in. The auction ends, then 5 minutes after the end of the auction I get a "Second Chance!" email off eBay. Seems a liiiittle bit too quick to be a genuine bidder pulling out, and it all being sorted out between them and the seller.
Well I ain't buying it, plenty more fish in the sea so I'll buy one from someone who doesn't seem to be trying to push the price up on me!

Report them for shill bidding, cos thats very obviously (i might be wrong, but i doubt it) pushing the price up if they are sending that quickly.
and the reason you can only see your name is its a private auction, which means your name wouldnt be exposed to anyone else who is bidding.

Ebay are starting a thing whree they hide other bidders ID's.
But to get a second chance that fast means it was falsley "bid up" or the seller has more than one item and likes the price it made so offers the other item/items to other bidders.
Scam

Could it not be that the seller has two of these, One has sold and he is offering you the second one for your max bid price?

Its still against the rules, he never advertised it on ebay.
So if it went missing and so did the other buyers item, what happens then? ebay wont have anything to do with it.
If they had two, advertise them separate, let the bids decide the price.
Either I'm drunk and cynical, or
I'm cynical and getting drunk :?

i wouldnt buy any second chance offers, ebayland is full of non human scum out to rip everone off, but as a seller it also works the other way, buyers never paying etc, if your gonna use ebay you gotta just ignore it or you will be moanin every day of every week about somink or other.
i think as someone causes problems on ebay they should be shot at dawn, eventually it will just be people using it and no aggro.
infact thats what we should do in general, to all idiots, oh no you got me started now.
off to grab me arsenal and off up town

A mate of mine automatically sends outr second chances to keep the interest there incase there is an issue....
You can always send a reply straight back seeing if it really is available or not! but report it anyway, if there's no issue then there's no problem in reporting is there?
-
I would say Its a con... I think you did the right thing to tell them to walk...
However I would say there are not many people out there who haven't asked a mate to help up the bidding for them.

No it's not against the rules, Ebay allows sellers with more than one identical item to offer it as a second chance buy it now.

If you sell on ebay you can now opt to hide the identity of bidders. You as the seller see all real identities but if you are bidding all you see is Bidder1, Bidder2 etc.
As for the 2nd chance, now that's a bit more sus!

What was the item?
