All 4x4's should come with government health warnings ..... ok - someone dig out the actual text...
Contest - Design/word a sticker for mud-club members to proudly wear on their vehicles that *looks* like a govt healt warning ;-)

How about this?

wouldn't it?

re the newspaper clipping.
"Upto 21 more times (chance of killing) if hitting another car in the side".
Hitting another car in the side is normaly due to the idot pulling out of a side road. If the myopic twit cant see me comeing he deserves all he gets, after all, he might manage to dent my bumper
I have spent too many years on a bike avoiding idiots like that to feel ANY sympathy for em.

I am right with you on that one!!
Anyway, I'm not sure my Discovery could gather enough speed to actually do very much damage

One for luck!
Cheers

The original article...
http://www.neweconomics.org/gen/news_4x4HealthWarning.aspx
Not quite sure what they mean when they say "the health impact of SUV's is significant:" then go on to talk about climate change and air pollution.
Yes ok, ALL forms of transport contribute to these in one form or another but the article reads that its only 4x4's that are making the problem worse than it already is.
The usual unsubstantiated one-sided dross.

<rant mode/>
Have any of these people stopped to consider the impact on the economy if they were to ban 4x4's?
Manufacturers would stop manufacturing 4x4's for the UK market, so immediately there will be large scale job losses in the motor industry. This will not be limited to just those people in Solihull, but also the knock on effect.
With no UK market for 4x4's, the only way our emergency services, utility companies, farmers etc could obtain them (assuming they had an exemption) would be via import, which will be expensive and difficult. I'm not certain of the europeanised legislation, but surely no UK market means the manufacturers would not bother getting type approval for the vehicles in the UK, and hence require anyone importing them to go the SVA route? Complex and difficult.
There would be no aftermarket industry, no specialist mechanics, parts manufacturers, you wouldn't even be able to pop to Kwik-Fit to get a new tyre, so the vehicles will become very difficult and expensive to maintain.
Subsequently, authorised users would not be able to afford the vehicles. This will be a serious blow for any remote communities and would have an impact on more mundane things such as "Nope, we know there was a snow storm that brought all the power down to 30000 people in the Scottish Borders, but we can't even begin repairs until the roads get opened to our vans."
Yes, they may be a problem in cities and on school runs - there are better ways of sorting out these problems than a ban.

Nope, no more than the anti-smokers think of the impact of reduced tax income.
According to ASH figures, the goverments income from tax on cigs is more than they pay out for the NHS. Lets say your average smoker pays £5 a day for cigs thats about £4 tax. Lets say the number of smokers is roughly equal to the number of workers who pay income tax (housewives who smoke, unemployed, low wages, black economy workers etc). That works out that everybody who pays income tax will have to pay around £120 a month extra to support the NHS. Zelots dont think, they just shout until somebody listens.
(ooopppssss sorry completly off topic)

Like it Jim ;)
-
just had to post this c**p
grrrrrrrr
-
they forget to mention that all 4x4s sold are compliant with the emission regulations at the time set by the goverment.
if people in smaller cars are 21 times more likely to get killed then their cars are unsafe. they should consider driving a 4x4 as it is statisically it is obvioulsy safer.
my defender does 30mpg - my company mondeo I had at the time my defender was built was a 2 litre petrol that did 27mpg
my defender is shorter, perhaps slightly wider and higher , but that doesnt add to congestion it improves it surely.
oh i wish i could think of a sticker!
-
Agree with Dave - I drive a 1988 Landy and a 2003 Volvo V70 T5.
The Landy is shorter than the Volvo and does more MPG. It also fits into parking spaces without overhanging and can do a U turn round a mini roundabout in one go (the Volvo needs a shunt back halfway round - scares other drivers  ).
Whilst the Volvo is superbly built I doubt very much that it will still be going with IT'S 16 years old, or for that matter continue for many years after that.
If I should run you over with either it's going to hurt. Mind you, if you are a Rambler then this may involve the use of reverse gear one or more times as may be appropriate
I heard the interview with the anti guy on Radio 2 today - strange how he doesn't drive or own a car isn't it. Bet the b*gger owns a bobble hat though

Our Rnagie certainly does, but then it stops damn fast too. Anyone pulling out in front of something that size deserved to be removed from the genetic pool.
As for motorbikes I can only sympathise, most car drivers like to feel cocooned in their cars, something the industry is pandering to, and this detaches drivers from the consequence of their actions.
-
As for the posters, I'd take one of each. I've been laughing my so-and-so off for about 5 minutes now.
-
What about banning all white van drivers, they have not regard for the public highway at all, or padestrians, they do 90Mph on the motorway and around town.........Not saying they are all bad but 99.999% of them are.
They are bigger than landrovers and general 4x4's..............
Then there are busses.............I have heard more people are killed buy being run over by a bus than a 4x4 as it always makes the news :?: :?:
-
Tim,
You make them,
I'll buy them =D>
Paul.
-
Good on you boys I LIKES ALL THE ADVERTS CAN THEY BE PURCHASED AS STICKERS HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
-
Will sort out stickers and t-shirts if you fancy :-)

Mental block while doing Discourse. Back to work for me now.

There gripe is obviously aimed at Neil as they've took insipration from Piglet
-
Last one before I go out.

I love the "Driving endangers your baby and other children" slogan.
So does Jack Daniels, the number 52 bus, wasps, and standing in Argos at Christmas time.
Yet I don't see a ban for those nasty [!Expletive Deleted!] on the horizon. (Expletive? Expletive my arse).
-
Um..I'd stick those stickers on Piglet to prove a point. I drive my vehicle because it is MY CHOICE. When the people who want to legislate this policy stop being driven around in gas guzzling Jags and Bentleys, then I might sit back and think about an LPG conversion. Until then.....
Government? You sold it to me, you tax me for it.....go on, cut your nose off....
-
I believe economists prefer to drive these returning figures worse than my old 200tdi and top speed of nearly double:
Manual
Top speed: 164 mph
0-62 mph: 5.7 seconds
Fuel consumption: 26.9 mpg (combined cycle)
Automatic
Top speed: 160 mph
0-62 mph: 6.4 seconds
Fuel consumption: 25.4 mpg (combined cycle)
I think they should stick their warnings elsewhere
(artists impression below)
-
=D> =D> =D> I'll take one of each warning please - Will save me doing the repaint next year :D
-
id like the car as well
shall I get me coat........nah
-
My favourites so far are Muddysteves '4x4's kill so get the hell out of my way' and Horness 'This vehicle smokes in public . . . .'
A couple of each please Tim when they go into production.
:D :D :D :D :D
-
I am tempted by the "4x4 kills so ...." but mirror imaged and produced as a sun visor so the idotd in front can read it in their mirror
-
my 2p... sorry bout the spelling - my hand are cold and im shivering !
-
apologies but this was rapidly done in paint..
-
I like the above two, great
-
Me, I'd wear such a health warning on my motor with pride.
I am not a number........

Ed
-
WARNING, THIS STRING IS SO FUNNY YOU MIGHT LAUGH YOUR A**E OFF!
Or fall off your chair,
or your sides might hurt.
Or you might get hoarse.
STOP IT NOW (or they'll ban it).
-
:D Just a thought, why not get t shirts printed and sell on ebay or at billing. Money raised could go towards paying for a club weekend play site, or go towards paying for this top forum...? like i say just a thought. :D Theyve certainly put a smile on my face tonight...
-
:D Damn good idea Muky, it'd cost me a fortune cos I'd have to have 1 of each and a matching set for SWMBO.... Oh and not forgetting the 2 Brats aswell
-
:D Well the Ramblers have there group ware ie ( bobble hats ). So well have our T shirts. Mud-club logo on front and Health Warning on the back. Should raise a phew eyebrowse....... lol
-
:D Heres one i did earlier... A bit small but i hope you can still read it. :D
-
It was mentioned briefly on Top Gear tonight 'the anti feeling towards 4x4's'.
In light of this and current moods do we have a sticker as yet :?:
-
We do indeed.
I'll post photos tomorrow... cost will be a slightly subsidised £1.00 each
-
Any photo's yet Tim :?:
-
OK.. sorry for the delay.
A few of the stickers have been added to the club shop under 'General Stickers'
Enjoy ! 8)

Order placed :D :D :D

Anyone watch 5th gear this week? A convincing arguament that my Range Rover is SAFER than a eurobox when it hits a pedestrian (plus it's easier to see/hear it coming, hell the ground shakes!) so I think we should be exploiting this:
Warning, this 4x4 is more pedestrian friendly than your Eurobox, be sure to ban it before people find out!
