Title: Restful trip away ...
Post by: Range Rover Red on April 17, 2007, 22:37:54
Just come back from a lovely trip to Selby (flyball competition) and Northumberland (holiday). Nothing really happened.

Thursday night - settled down in bed, the DVD had finished, 1.00 am some scrote riding round the campsite on a quad bike.  Everybody up at 7.00 in the morning ready to start racing.

Good Friday - no gas.  Took two empties to Wandahome to find that the price of gas has gone up over the winter.  Came back.  Still no gas.  Fixed regulator bunged up - on dealer's recommendation had to scrounge a regulator and some rubber hose and bypass the fixed regulator - job done.  I've got a nasty feeling I took a full bottle back to Wandahome.

Friday night - having spent all day with the battery running low very quickly and charging it up on the genny, battery gave up the ghost.  By 9.30 pm we had no lights, no telly, no water pump and no ignition for the cooker.  Gates locked at 8.30 pm, no petrol left to start the genny.  Laid in bed listening to everyone else's dogs barking and gennies running.  Manual flush on the toilet so at least that wasn't a problem.

Saturday - race day.  We were in Division 15 of 16, seeded fourth.  We won!  It made the trip worthwhile.  In between races I had to go to Wandahome again to get a new battery.  Arrived in a cloud of smoke - the sound deadening in the bonnet had gone saggy, onto a hot engine.  With a bit of help I removed the smouldering remains of the liner, dumped loads of water on it and the last I saw of it was when it went in the skip.  Came back to the caravan between races to find that the blind had decided it was not going to roll up.  Team mate tried to retension it but could't get a screwdriver in it.  Spat my dummy out and wasn't worth knowing for a while.  Sampled some of the whisky we bought on a trade stand.

Sunday - broke the flush on the toilet.  Had to resort to a 3l bottle of pink rinse and hope it didn't splash over the top.  Portaloos on site full - caravanners emptying their cassettes into them coz the waste disposal was brim full and overflowing - glorious!  Instead of lazing around having a nice relaxing day and watching the flyball, had to come home so RRB could check the car for me - apart from a singed cowl on the fan everything else seems fine.  Got back to find that two dogs had been stolen during the day and one of my team mates had got back to her dog to find someone trying to steal him!

Monday - moved on to Northumberland - gas now working, Caravan Club site, hook-up, shower block, nice quiet surroundings.

Thursday - gas went again.  Phoned the dealer the van came from, explained the problems.  Money ran out on phone.  Tried to top it up, no credit/debit card registered with Orange.  Their computers down so I couldn't set one up.  Had to drive to local garage to put some more money on the phone.  Rang caravan dealer again, explained problems and booked it in for repairs.

Friday - came home.

Saturday - in between 8 loads of washing - van in to dealer's - gas sorted and checked, blind stripped down and repaired, new flush installed in toilet.  All done while the van was still hitched to the car and ready to go to the next competition in a couple of weeks (all work covered by the warranty thankfully)

Monday - back to work for a rest

Hi Jane

sounds like you had a busy time - we went to holland & brought back loads of wine (hic!!)

GREAT to hear you won at flyball - does that laid back dog of yours have a rosette?

know how you feel about the caravan & no electricity, last time we went out in ours we discovered we had had little furry visitors and none of the 12V stuff worked.  despite geoff stripping as much of the wiring out as he could - sadly did not find a fried mouse but the 12 V is now working again.

Didn't you see the pinboard?  It's full, overflowing and we need a new one!  She did get another one to add to it.
