Title: Wheels and Tyre sizes
Post by: LaidBack on April 18, 2007, 07:24:20
Hi All
Being new with a RRC I was wondering what the ideal wheel and tyre size should be. I have fitted OME 1.5 inch lift on with 16x7 inch steel wheels and BFG AT's from another vehicle. I am considering BFG MT's and therefore the time would be right to go up to 16x8 inch wheels if this is sensible? Don't want to mess with the body although the car will only be really used for off roading.
Any thoughts/advice anything at all really would be welcome
Thanks
Chris

A 16x7 rim is good for tyres upto 265 mm wide, but thats the limit. unless you want to fit something as big as a 285/75r16 (which will require some form of body modifications) then your existing wheels should be OK.

A 235/85 should fit without too much trouble provided its on standard offset rims and you adjust the steering stops accordingly.

Yeap, I'm on 235/85 and I can still get the axle to the bump stops without removing any painted bits

Thanks guys I presume from this the best bet would be 265/85/16 and I wouldn't have to do any mods to the RR? I have I read this right?

On a cost/performance ratio I'd say go with 235 but it depnds on what you want to do.  In some places wide tyres float rather than getting through the mud to the grip underneath, in other places they might sink rather than stay on the surface (sand for example).
