Well... here am I stuck at work waiting for a new dizzy cap to be brought over by SWOMBO.
Last service (3 months ago...if that!) Put on a shiny lucas 8 pot dizzy... spare no expense...!
Wouldn't start today so man in yella van was called and he found that the centre brush bringing current from the king lead to the rotor arm had... well... gone up in a puff of smoke! All that was left of it was half a spring!
He tried to doctor in another brush from a 4pot dizzy cap but no success... so... wait for the next installment when wifie gets here!

You going to hate me now but i always keep a spare dissy, leads, rotor arm in the back of me disco. plus i was still at work at 6 pm. Hope you got it sorted in the end

I bought one from Halfords (not marked as Lucas) and got a strange lack of power at full throttle, smooth but definitely missfiring. Fitted old cap, back to normal.
Went in the dealer for a genuine part and they offered me the same thing, blue and unbranded. Got to hope it's ok from a dealer though don't you.
BTW, Lucas dealer told me that Lucas no longer exists as such and anything that's made is made under licence, so who knows where it's madeor by who, though the box says made in the uk
-
Well... it's worse than I thought... NEw dizzy cap made some difference, but nmot enough... runs like a bag of spanners! So I came home on the back of a truck last night.
God alone knows what it could be... even if it is a licensed part I would have expected a far greater improvement.
That said... the exhaust has been blowing heavily at the manifold y piece joint (as per other post), there was a suggestion that this is part of the cause... but it was fine Thursday morning... it sat parked up all day... can't think what could have caused the change.
Happily got a friendly mechanic coming over Saturday... hopefully he'll diagnose something really simple and easy to fix... 8-[

:D
Run mine on LPG, was told to use genuine Lucas parts from main dealer.
Went to Halfords and asked who made their dizzy caps, guess who? Lucas

I also had a new dizzy cap fail with in 20 miles "Blue Lucas" the old one when back on as I had kept it (just in), the new new one was fine! Me thinks Lucas quality control is not what it should be.

Me thinks Lucas quality control is not what it should be.
My Mum used to do QC for Lucas, she's retired now so she'll probably agree with you
-
So it looks like the Blue Lucas ones are to avaoided at all costs.
My dealer-supllied dizzy was blue (got a bad feeling now) but the rotor was black and had Lucas moiulded on it. If they weren't so expensive I'd stock up.
The Halfrauds one I bought, once it had been run, looked like is was missfiring inside too. You know how the white metal terminals get burned and scaley? well 5 had scaled over and 3 were mint, like new :?

Well here I am... back on the road and all thanks to Mike's Mud Monster. He was kind enough to come over and have a look... take the dizzy apart and clean it up, put on a new rotor arm and bob's yer auntie!
Also need to publicly thank him for helping with the snapped exhaust manifold to down pipe studs... drilling them out, tapping them and helping me get the thing back on.

A mate of mine with a stage 1 v8 has trouble with his dizzy cap too. Took us ages to work out why it wouldnt start. We found out the rotar arm was very slightly loose. The metal bit has fallen off a couple of times. He now keeps a tube of super glue in the landy just incase.
