Title: Dirty weekend abroad.
Post by: drum on November 28, 2004, 20:40:01
I few comments elsewhere, and me fancying something a little bit different, got me wondering.

Anybody fancy organising a dirty weekend abroad. I'm thinking possibly Southern Ireland, or France. I don't know any sites or anything, so I would need some input, but could do some of the organisation if required.

Long weekend could eaily be, meet midday Friday, no too early so people have time to reach the starting point.  Travel Friday Afternoon\Overnight. Saturday Green Laning, Sunday a Play type site, and back Monday Morning.

What do people think?

Unfortunatly I can't do long weekends due to not being able to book time off work  :(
I have been looking for a holiday abroad for next summer. Thinking of Irland or France for a couple of weeks at the moment. Just thinking of some gentle green laneing at the moment given my track record at breaking things on pay n play sites

I'd be interested to see how it goes, but I'm concerned about reliability to be honest.

If you don't already know of them, take a look at :  http://www.mudplug.co.uk/

They are a commercial company who do this type of trip... their site might give you some pointers / ideas.

Cheers,

I might be interested, but it would need to be spring/summer - I've heard there's quite good laning in France (and that's the limit of my knowledge on the subject  )

There are no greenlanes in Ireland as such. (check out rival forum on difflock.com) for extensive discussions.

I'm moving to Ireland next year and was disapointed to here the above.

You also need permission to drive in the forests as they are all private or state owned.

Best bet would be to link up with one of the 4x4 clubs over there.

Very good point Paul.

Try this unruly mob :  http://www.munster4x4.com/

They have access to land and host the 3 Peaks challenge each year.  Can probably help you out.

Try Impala Adventures (not got the web address with me at work). I've not been abraod with them, but have been out and about with them lots of times - doing the 2 day treasure hunt over Christmas.
They use tulip books & timed/staggered starts so it feels like you're out on your own, but have excellent recovery/safety arrangements.
