Which to go for. I am looking at 3 cars. All Espon green 2 are on Y plate and one on V plate.
The one Y plate has 37,000 miles (but may sell as someone has first refusal) for £7,995.
The other has 35,000 for £8993 but no air conditioning, but is in stunning condition.
The V Plate has 100,000 miles on the dash but a newly fitted engine for £7,790. This is a top of the range job with all the toys etc Engine has done 35,000.
which would you go for ?.
-
which is the import one?
-
None of them. The first one has now sold. Doh as I think that wa the real gem of the 3. So now between the V and Y.
-
decided not to go for that one then?
-
Yes, To many miles for the money and need some work in the end. The V plate looks imaculate, just worried about the running gear having done 100,000. The Y plate is a steal, but don't know if I can put up with no Air con.
-
open your windows more often then u wont need aircon......
i have aircon in mine but id rather drive with windows open still then use it

Wnet and had a good look at them both. Went for the V reg. It has everything - Ele heated seats, heats mirrors windscreen, climate control, 7 seats, radio controls for all passengers, rear air con, elc sunroofs, auto leveling, cruise control, and full leather interior and much more I can't remmeber. The engine was a total replacement fitted by landrover at a cost of £4000 + 35,000 miles ago and it has a new turbo, gear box has been serviced etc.. seen all the paperwork all by landrover. I figure anyone who can afford to replace the engine at that cost hasn't skimped on servicing. It also has a full landrover service history, there isn't a scratch on it and the chassis is lovley and clean.
I am getting a 12 mot and 3 year 5 star warranty with a claim limit of £1000 each.
So for £7500 it was in my opinion a good purchase. Now I can't wait to get it. With the money I saved I am going to put a snorkel and steps on it and discreet tinting to all the reear windows. Anyone got any idea how much thats going to cost me?
Below is my new baby !!
-
Very nice/tidy motor - hope it serve's you well.
Like you said, full LR service history, all the toys - perfect.
If you are going to put a snorkel on it, I presume it will be used off-road (as it should!) - I would opt for Discoparts (http://www.discoparts.com) rock sliders with treesliders instead of steps. The treeslider add-on act as steps, but also offer protection off-road as well. Discoparts supply them with a grit adhesive tape as well to put on top.
That's £200 worth, but much better than steps in the long run. Add about £150 for your snorkel, and that leaves the tinting.
I had my tinting done professionally as every time I tried to do it, I ended up with an aero bar effect on my windows. From the B-Pillar back, including alpines and sunroofs was about £250 from memory.
If you know someone who can do it locally, get them to do it, you'll save loads.

Nice car!

looks very clean
if it was me i wouldnt bother with the snorkel etc unless your planing on going wading, put the cash towards some 18 inch wheels. they look great on disco's
heres my wifes V8 ES, with 18's fitted

Shiny 18's are nice for road cruisers but not great for off-road as they will get bashed, go for the snorkel and the sliders!!
-
Just get some decent A/Ts and enjoy. You dont need all the "toys" unless you plan any serious offroading.
Snorkel ? Only if deep wading or dust driving
Rocksliders ? Only if serious playdays . if you need them for a byway then you should not drive it.
If you do change the tyresthink long and hard about what you plan to use the vehicle for. A/Ts will cop with most terrains.
M/Ts will cope offroad better but get a decent brand as they will behave better on road.

thats looks to nice to off rd, i presumed it was going to be the family cruiser.

No its going to be my fishing mobile. Familys all grown up and driving their own motors these days. I love my old 200tdi, but needed a car for work and stuff as I do call out now and need to know it will def get me there (not that my old one wouldn't but at her age she might let me down). So i decided to invest in a newer model. I wanted a newer one than this one to be honest but when I saw the condition of this one with the new Landrover fitted engine, full history and all landrover reciepts for everything I decided it was to good to miss and saved myself some money. My plan is to get her totally rust proofed (well as much as you can) and try keep her that way. Might even manage to get her to see me through to retirement.
The reason I want the steps is because when my wife goes somewhere with me she has difficulty getting into them as she is vertically challenged. The snorkel because this winter I have had to drive along seriously flooded tracks down to the river and lakes to go fishing. Once or twice I have had to turn back for fear of sucking up water. 3ft of water for 100 yards + isn't going to do her any good without a snorkel I fear. Tinted windows to help keep prying eyes off my fishing gear.

Get the tree sliders then. They are just as good as girly side steps. Side steps bend with a rock within a 100mile radius. Look at my tree sliders. As for snorkel. You know who I'm going to highly recomend for expert snorkel fitting  also if your going through that kind of water to go fishing I might start taking it up as a hobby!!!

You wouldn't believe some of the spots I have had my old Disco in. Thats the great thing about having one. I can go fishing and really enjoy getting there too.

Got my new baby on the drive. Found a few minor spots I will need to look at, but other than that shes lovely. The main worry is that if shes in road mode and not raised on the air suspension she is listing to the nearside at the rear ever so slightly. What is causing this ?. I have a 3 year 4x4 warranty on it, so if its broke I can get it fixed hopefully.
-
If it's consistent then the potentiometer probably needs calibrating. This is a 5 minute job if you have Rovacom or Testbook.

My old one did that (same vintage and spec as yours!). It was fine when the engine was running, and the compressor didn't sound like it was overworked, and so I just kept an eye on it.
Cheers

Thanks. It seems to have sorted itself out now. I will keep an eye on it and see if it happens again. If so it can go into the garage for repair.

My "Y" pate GS cost me £10k

Seems that the rear air bag has a leak and she is VERY thirsty on the old diesel. Shes being plugged into a Ravacom tomorrow at an independant. Also had a lovely leak in the interior this morning. Found the drainage pipe from the sunroof has come away. Its presently sat on the drive in peices waiting for a s**t load of glue and mastic to set so I can test it and put it back together again.
Dealer will be having it back next week to repair the faults.

Don't tell me, your finding that your only getting 22 mpg?
or 400 miles per tank.
Thats what I have been getting so far
-
Im now just about getting that out of my 300tdi auto after I put red ex in. I have to drive like a saint though to get 400miles.
-
Yes thats about the size of it. I spoke to someone at a petrol station yesterday who is driving a V8 and they are getting the same MPG as my TDI that can't be right surely. Its booked into have a Ravacom fitted to it today to see if there are any problems with the engine management. Should be getting 28-30 on a run I would have thought!.

Well its been a mixed day today. Firstly the computer at the garage I took it to won't talk to my Landy. But the fuel efficency has come up. I checked it last week and I was getting 22-23 mpg. Since then I have changed the air filter as the last one was quite dirty. I have checked her again and over the last 54 miles I got 26.3 mpg. That was around town and short birsts of dual carriageway driving. Could something as simple as a dirty air filter be the cause of the problem.
I have the vehicle booked into the dealer to get all the snagging sorted out and they are going to investigate the poor fuel economy, so I will let them check it out anyway.
