Title: Disco trailing arms and lifts
Post by: Wanderer on November 29, 2004, 21:13:26
Hi All,
If putting a 3" lift on a Disco do you need a longer trailing arm?
Does it need to be cranked? I'd have thought it might need to be cranked at the body end to avoid bush damage.
Can you get bushes that would deal with the angles involved?

Catch 22....   3" up, it will be forward of its normal position... but on bump travel it will be too far back.

What you actually want to do is make it longer and move the chassis mount forward.. this increases the radius of the arc and reduces the amount of wheelbase shift under articulation..  not a job for the faint hearted though.

I run Ironman bushes on the rear of Tigger, these are split at an agle around the chassis mount, this means that at rest, there is no pressure on the bush.

It means you can run straight radius arms, meaning that the forces from the axles are transferred up the arm in compression.

Thanks Tim,
I might go that way.

Still wondered how others have got round it.

Paul,
1" under the axle (on the tyres) and an 3" on the springs and shockers.

3" on the front will leave me within tolerance with the QT castor corrected radius arms.

Just a case of sorting the trailing arms as I don't want them bending back underneath.
