Title: how much auto fluid do i need

ok just replaced my auto in my 3.9 disco which i broke many moons ago, got it all fitted up then went out and bought 2 gallons of fluid, but dont no how much to put in

so if any1 has got the answer to my question, i can top her up and break her again tomorow lol


oh by the way the box had abit of fluid in it already but not that mch

Drain out what's in there, cos you don't know what state its in, and start a fresh.
Haynes says the auto box will take 9.10 litres of ATF. So put the first 5 in and then keep an eye on the dip-stick.  :wink:

I bought 12 litres (in a box=good deal) to do mine but there is about 3 litres in the torque converter you can only get out by removing it from the car, so mine only took 5 litres.

Fill it up 'till the fluid comes above the max mark with the engine stood, then start it up, put it in all gears slowly at least twice then put it in neutral and check the dipstick.  If you are way below the mark then add fluid and run through all the gears again to get bubbles out of the valve block.
