Got round to fitting my panel with the winch switches and the clock that I moved over from instrument cluster. I now have a hole in the instrument cluster that I was going to fill with a TD5 rev counter.
I've looked and found the pin out from ECM (Pin 19 YK) and I've heard a rumour that later TD5's have this all the way to the instrument cluster, but looking at Electrical diagrams I can't find it.
Anyone know what wire it is? If so can you tell me the instrument connector no. and colour code please.
Cheers
Steve

Steve,
The info you need is all here - http://www.web-rover.co.uk/nav.php?p=td5kb/vdotacho
Where did you get your rev counter from ?

I have a rev counter to my 2001 the connection I use was aready behind theinstrument panel, there is a large connector over to the right hand side has about 20 connection to it(free from panel). There should a grey wire with white stripe(please correct me if I'm Wrong it a couple of years since I did mind) one corner of the connector block it should arrive at the connector and come out on instrument panel. that wire is the trigger for your rev counter.
This will hopefully save adding wire which you already have

Thanks for the posts. So it seems I'm look for either a White wire with grey stripe or Grey with white stripe. Can't find either and I have wires on instrument connector as per Electrical Diagram on mine.
The only White Grey wire I can find on the vehicle goes to the throttle pedal connector.
So it looks like I'll have to run a wire from pin 19 of ECM.
The rev counter is an LR part, YAE100790, available from any LR parts place. Should be able to source it at ~£85 inc VAT, if not these were the cheapest guys online..TD5 Rev Counter (http://tamar4x4store.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=264) or for £20 more you can buy it from Croytec with some cable ties and wires
I went for LR TD5 counter as it's pre-calibrated for taking speed feed from ECM and has lower range 0-5000. There are cheaper VDO ones available.
Cheers
