A fluke is something that goes right, against the massive odds stacked against it.

Thats a very big shackle.....i'd be looking at the MOD tanks to find the one with a missing shackle rather than lorries or 4x4's.

Yup......

Insecure Load maybe! (I know someone who copped this for lack of number plate on trailer.... when he claimed it was there when he started the journey.

Due Care And Attention maybe!

Death By Careless Driving maybe!

Manslaughter maybe!

Sorry but if it were me...... I'd keep it quiet!

Actually, it has rather a nice size for lifting. Out of the shackles I use for lifting with the HIAB, that would be medium to large size.

As for reporting to the police, I very much doubt anyone would come forward, that assuming they actually know they lost a shackle. In some cases, you carry around so much tackle, that the only way of knowing if it is all there is to pull out the certificates and do a full inventory. And then you could have left it on site, or someone could have nicked it, etc.., etc...

After reading this I went to check mine were still there.  (They were.)  I keep mine quite tight (rather than backed off) so in theory they'll only come off with a screwdriver (also helps stop people nicking them).

I see plenty of ratchet straps lying around the roads, and I'd have thought a ratchet handle would have done as much damage as a shackle, so it does seem surprising this has happened.

I would have thought the chances of anybody coming forward are fairly remote.

You'll never find who did it and to be honest its an accident, just one of the terrible things.

This was just down the road from me. I heard that a metro had landed in a ditch but nothing else. Was wondering why that would close the road for so long untill i found out. Aparently the pin ended up in a lorry wheel according to that article.

There is a HUGE scrapyard on that road who always have stuff moving about, theres also a few quarries and hauliage firms based round there too and its a shortcut to the M3

I doubt the owner even knows its gone but I know I checked mine the following morning. I've heard of Cats-Eyes doing this before though.
