My wife had a kid in a coupe fly past her yesterday with no front number plate. By chance he followed me through the village again today. I stopped to say something and he just got super mouthy at me.
That was his chance gone; first thing I did when I got home is call the police and report him; the plate was on the back so he's traceable. Now he has the local police looking for him on the road.
How stupid people can be; without being mouthy will probably cost him points and a fine.

I've been doing like things today.
There's a car that's been parked in our street since Saturday. No tax. Well the lable in the window says 01 01 07 So I've rung the local council enforcement team.
No tax = no insurance and most likely no MOT.

It REALLY hacks me off when people make this assumption, TAX means you have to have these items but it doesnt mean you dont have them. My landlords been on at me over this re my donor car and was promply shot down in flames. Un untill a few weeks ago this car was insured and MOTed but not taxed.
In your case, yes you did right as its on a public road but careful what assumptions you make.

If you are insured but not taxed and taking the car for an MOT etc. then certainly no problem.
If you are 'insured' but not taxed adn driving around then in the event of a claim the insurance company could claim that they have no liability as the car was not legally on the road. Weak but I wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of that.
This guy was just a scrote of a Boy Racer though; he will get what he deserves, I'm sure the police will check the documents.

They should be able to do that without seeing him, as all reg numbers on the magic poota have insurance details linked to the number, as MoT's will be within twelve months. The days of the '7 day producer' are numbered.
Mind you, it would be worth a closer check to see what his car is insured as. If it has been modified in any way, and not declared, he is in the poop!

At work I've just bought a smart Roadster, its an 03/53 28k miles and is in two bits with 3ft mid section cut out and kept for inspection...... also no chasss plates....
The nice person that owned it got caught 3 times with no tax or insurance on a car that would retail for circa £ 6,000....
And it got slapped with with a destruction order :lol:
The best bit.....

Insurance circa £ 250 for a 30yr old
I've been offered another car with a destruction order too.... about £3k worth of smart Fortwo....
Report em, at least in Essex they are "destruction ordering" them! and especially if you see a smart or Fourtrak or Terracan with Leather :wink:

The way the police have always told me no tax then the insurance is void if the vehicle is being used every day on a public highway.
So this vehicle has no tax then it also has no valid insurance.
The tax ran out 01 01 07.
Why should I try to comply with the law of this country as a pensioner on less than £75 a week . 60% of that 75 being paid back in taxes of various kinds.
Let me also explain that this vehicle is a daily driver. Also most times that the vehicle is being parked the people getting out of the vehicle are not capable of walking in a straight line.
Perhaps you can also explain to me why this vehicle will have to pass a ANPR camera which ever way it leaves my street and nothing seems to be done about it.
Next week I have to find £180 for a years tax on my Defender. Six months of which the car will not be in the UK.

i think you did the right thing to report him but to be frank i think you were daft to confront him. Its not worth the risk tbh. No disrespect but you are asking for trouble and if his car is taken away and destroyed i would make sure he doesnt find where you live.
there are too many nutters out there nowadays.

You know you guys, as well as us plod can report a driver to the DVLA for no Tax... Speak to you local DVLA office. (Sadly you can't give out the tickets) I had a local lady in the village where I work with no tax and not a care in the world. the locals were up in arms, interestingly we got her stopped and seized the car for no insurance, while doing so she commented the DVLA were taking her to court for no tax because the locals had grassed her up! LOL

You dont even need to speak to DVLA to report no tax, just go on their website and report it online

We get alot around where i live with no plates on the front ! I bet the car was a corsa, saxo, punto, pug 106 or astra & prob with a jap styled front bumper ? All they get is a defect notice & if unluky a £60 fine.
i would love the black & silver plates on mine as it's black , :cry: but can't as it was mad after 1974 , but i see loads of lads with them on their cars, it's not worth the risk or the fine
