I'm thinking about getting a big motor which will be used for towing and hauling <edit> about.
Can anyone please tell me what sort of age, mileage, spec and condition Range Rover I could expect for around £2000.
I would not want a VM diesel, or anything heavily modified. I'm also not overly fussed about LPG especially if the tank is in the boot.

Good condition TDi Range Rover Classic, with good overall condition. Mileage, er... not a clue about that part other than it won't be intergalactic!

300tdi manual rangie, red, needs a new bonnet £1500, no tax but has test on it lol, its not me who is selling it, its a local garage :-o its M-reg.

you lot are gonna flame me but shoot never mind
i would not tow with a landy product at all for this job unless it comes with a spare gearbox or 2 if i was forced to i would go clasic rangy with a borgwarner auto as its more durable than zf4spd but then you would have to live with a v8s thirst unless it had 6.2 gm diesel conversion the best of the rest ? dunno but i would go 200tdi rather than 300 ok i am done flame away but i have worked at a stealerships workshops and know brand loyalty aint worth [!Expletive Deleted!] when its broken

The thing is, he never said what it is exactly he'll be pulling. If he's pulling near or at the limit specified by LR on a regular basis then there are bound to be issues on a motor that's aged and has done a fair few miles.

If I had a Range Rover I would want a V8. I'm not keen on the idea of a 'small' diesel.

v8 diesel

Find a RR with a Jap diesel in it, for heavy work try and find a Mazda 3.5td or an Isuzu 3.1td. I have just bought an 82 RR with a Nissan Patrol 2.8 td in it for peanuts, all welded up scruffy under the bonnet but pulls the house down.

I know where there is a G reg Range Rover with a 200TDi in it (possibly a gold seal engine) and your £2k would buy it.
I tow regulary with all 3 of ours and TBH I like the V8 auto, though it does get a bit hot the way I drive.
RRR just got a 300TDi auto from Bezza and it's great to tow with but a bit thirsty.
SO I have to be honest the best towcar is a V8 on LPG at the moment and if it's a multipoint LPG then all the better.
