ive just got a new laptop complete with vista...tried installing the software for my sony ericsson k800i...won't find the drivers.
as far as i can find out sony ericsson haven't released it for vista yet and won't be for some time...can anyone confirm / deny this?
also...is there any way i can 'emulate' winxp to run the software?
other than that so far i've found vista to be ok, the graphics are quite cool but the constant asking for confirmation to do anything with an executable file or anything downloaded is annoying...

You can turn "User Account Control" off (Control Panel, User Accounts) and get rid of the constant whingeing.
This may make your system less secure, but then again you so quickly get used to hitting "Accept" when messages pop up every 5 seconds that if something pops up saying "About to delete all files on hard drive" you'll probably hit "Accept" anyway before you realise what's going on. Apparently not only do Microsoft not really understand software very well, they don't understand psychology very well either.

you probably wont find many non-microsoft based companies are slow to deliver new software, as the entire scripting prossess has changed. apparently. this means all the codes for programs have to be changed, before they work well. they will soon come trickeling, before the flood, as people buy newer machines. PS: I hope you got "Service Pack 2" (less error's).

What, Vista? It's not even on Service Pack 1 yet - SP1 will be sometime in the second half of 2007. Are you thinking of XP?

I had the same prob when I first had my vista laptop a few weeks ago. I did a search and fount this post on another site
If you download the drivers from this link
http://www.nxtg.net/files/sony-ericsson-k-series-drivers.zip
you can install a K800i on Vista if you manually point Vista to the driver files once the Automatic search fails.
I have installed my K800i in this method and synced it with MyPhoneExplorer
Hopes this helps
I did it and it works perfectly

I work for a software company and we're not even looking at Vista compatablity yet :/
Either we're backwards or XP is still the best choice for now, I'm split tho, even I think we should take Vista abit more serious..

themidor - thanks for that - typical vista...it then comes up with a notification saying my system is insecure because its switched off...i dont see why i have to confirm every selection...it's a bit like chris tarrant 'is that your final answer'
barnhill - thanks for the link...i'll have a play with that tomorrow and report back how succesful it is :)

Go back to XP James, you know it makes sense.

hardly anything is ready for vista atm mate!!

i know dell are replacing vista on some peoples machines as its still useless. xp pro is way way better...and there are no dates for any service packs for vista yet...i work for a reseller.

Have already 'rolled back' two machines, and I have a feeling I have a thjird comming up. I certainly wont be going over to it untill its either not a waste of space and riddled with DRM or I have no choice.
I'm more than happy with XP & MCE

I've been using it for several weeks now with a big variety of software and a fair few devices and, after a considerable amount of initial fiddling, everything works perfectly now. To say it's useless or that hardly anything is ready for it is a gross exaggeration. I'm the first to criticise Microsoft (I'm a Mac man at heart) but I'm glad I moved to it from XP. It's a more polished product.

It'll sulk about it for a while and then forget about it 8)
