hello all..
today ive been given the chance to do some free lance admin work and put my business management degree to some proper use as it was.
Any way my problem being i really have no clues as to what to charge per hour.
so if you could possibly give me a hand as i need to get back to them asap
thankies :)

If it's mindless stuff i'd say about £8 per hour.
If it requires your skills in a specialist sense, then think about £12-£15 per hour.
It depends on the kind of work really.
-
i beleive it will mainly be typing stuff from dicaphone
-
It's secretarial then and will be at the bottom end of the range then, i'm afraid! You could push up the price if you touch type fast, though.
Beer money is beer money at the end of the day.
In my holidays at university i used to do admin for a sixth form college who needed extra hands to process the UCAS forms and stuff. That was good pocket money and easy work.
-
indeed it is extra work but then im free most evenings and sat at the pc messing about with bits a bobs.
just that no ones ever asked me if i wanted freelance stuff and im currently a bar manager so i ve no clues on what the going rate for admin work is other than what ever minium wage is @ the mo.
i think your suggestion of £8 an hour sounds about right tho

yes it might be a wise move!

MINIMUM WAGE ??????
Thought you could charge agency rates or prob £8-10 an hour

Depends a bit if they think you're going to declare it for tax or it's cash in hand I'd say.
I've seen others take on work like this and there seems to be at least 3 ways of going:
Formal employment through the books in which case the higher figures might be OK
Cash in hand lower rates as they can't decalre it as a business expense
Or, agree a flat rate for the job - I'll transcribe all that stuff for £X
If it's from a Dictaphone then you could say you'll do it per tape. Then you still have to settle if it's cash in hand or not!

Well done !
Start off charging what you can get then have a look around and see what others charge to try and either compete on price or quality, but never undersell your self.
Good luck
