Ola
Is 2 hours to long to get 2 bulkhead bolt nuts off and remove a sheared bolt in the rear x member?
Today i figured would be a good day to fit the rear step and side steps to a collegues 90(hes a little old so bending down is not his thing!)A job which i thought couldnt and wouldnt take more than 1 hour.
Ohh boy was i wrong!
I took 2 of us 2 hours to do the nuts and 20 mins to sort the rear step and fit the drivers side step. The passenger step is going to be for another day as the nut got stuck right at the end of the bolt.
Im going to take a whole day to do that one!

Thats why i replace any fixings with new stainless nuts and bolts when ever i take something off the landy.
It can get you mad though

I spent £6 on a couple of nut splitters last Friday to get my gearbox off - it was a good investment

I didn't think about getting some new nuts but was all prepared to put some copper grease on but I know theres some in the building but couldn't find it so went with vaseline!
Will be buying some nut splitters now as that was an L reg 90 so what chance have I got on a muddy series 3!

Two points.
Stainles Steel bolts are even softer than the 8.8 carrots tyou've taken out.
Copper grease will not stop threads rusting and seizing. That is why you should use a thread lock of some type on threads. Copper grease on the shank of a bolt can make it easier to keep the shank from seizing.

Indeed. Never use SS fixings for anything structural. There are higher grade SS fixings available, but they would cost more than your average Land Rover is worth!!!
