So, when did the "post only" rule come into force ?
According to Wolfie its "due to the actions of a minority" so why are we all suffering ? - cant this "minority" be read the riot act ?
I was trying to amend my post re 110 for sale but obviously cant - so what now ?
Do I have to wait 7 days until it gets binned and start again, or will that get pulled too for trying to get it back to the top ?
Is this going to be a permanent change or just until the "minority" drift away..................................? :?

send me a link to your post and the amended text and I will correct it for you.
as for how "permanent" this is, well, the for sale section currently occupies a lot of moderator time, and that is making us neglect our duty in other areas hence we thought we'd give this a go and see how well it works out.

Thanks Datalas - If its OK with you I would rather just redo the whole post sometime this weekend
Just want to make sure it wont get pulled first !
Cheers

what have i missed :? who,s upset the apple cart now then
-
I'd missed that but it does make sense.
One question; if we can't reply is it a big workup to remove the Post Reply button so it's more obvious?
-
whos this minority. is it cos people posted to M1ROO's throead about trug aaaaages ago?
i think its silly having no reply thing on the for sale bit... for example if they want to add pics later... they cant. etc etc....
-
As far as I can tell you should have permission to edit your original posts, however it does mean that if you want to sell something you should view it as a classified ads sort of affair and take a bit of care when writing your original post...
-
Why punish the majority with the actions of a minority. The majority of the people on this site "behave" and I mean the vast majority.
If there are 1 or 2 or even 20 people missbehaving then ban or restrict those people not make forum life difficult for us all.
Rant Over!

Be careful what you wish for
Just to make it clear, we discussed the options and decided to try it this way. We might change our minds in the future.
-
why dont we have a vote then?
democracy. it seems more people like it so that you can reply to ads.

I hope that wasn't aimed at me? What have I done?

It wasn't :)
As was said it wasn't or isn't that "some people are missbehaving" more that the for sale section is taking up more and more of the moderators time, be it with people thread stealing, criticising people, saying things cost too much, hijacking sales and constantly bumping items it appeared nobody wanted to buy, we were spending more time moderating the for sale section than the rest of the forums. This was deemed to be excessive and somewhat counter productive to the club as a whole.
Hence, we're trying something new. A appreciate it's not everyone's tastes and some members of the moderation team don't like it either so go easy on them :).
However, if you're selling something you should have the ability to edit and delete your posts as required, so if you consistently get asked the same question you can include the answers in the ad, similarly you can remove the ad should need be.
As wolfie has said, we aren't as a whole totally sold on the idea and we may change it in the future but for now please bear in mind that moderator time is limited and we need to use those resources as best we can. You will have spotted we have a new moderator kicking about (I'll not name them to offer them some safety) but ...

Be careful what you wish for
Well that's a sly dig at someone and not at all helpfull to this thread - what is your point without being so cryptic ?
-
Well I think it's a good idea.
It had become a bit of a challenge to keep up with what was being sold.
-
Just scanning through this thread, and through the current adverts on the site (and knowing some of the recent threads which have gone sideways in the for sale section), I think it is reasonably fair to say that a reasonable percentage of the people who disagree with the new policy have been guilty of ignoring forum rules about 'bumps' and thread hijacking.
It's easy to complain, and for people to accuse this "minority" of people... but have a look at the adverts... how many of them have been bumped and hijacked ?
A large percentage of the people who post in the for sale section have been choosing to ignore the guidelines set out for the use of the site... so now the guidelines have been enforced. Sorry, but the move is a direct result of people's actions.
I have no doubt that we'll get called all the things we usually get called when we make a change to the site.... it won't help, we're used to it

This is not the only forum that i use to go this route, after all if you are genuinely interested in an item its no more difficult to pm the seller than it is to post in the thread.
