Title: Transfer box
Post by: DAVE39V8 on May 19, 2007, 02:39:08
What I want to know is does the drum on the transfer box come off easy :?:
I have sand or something grinding when driving and want to take drum off to clean behind it but dont want it all falling apart on me
Does it come off like a brake drum by undoing screw and levering off :?:

Car in question is a 94 Classic V8.

Thanks in advance

Dave

drop the prop off, undo the screw. the drum should slide off, no levering needed. if it doesnt, lever one of the rubber caps out (if they are still there) and look inside for the adjuster, lever this round a few times to bring the shoes inward, and the drum will come off.

i dont know if owt will drop off, coz i dont know whats up with your handbrake. it shouldnt do if all well in there.

It's not in the service shedule but well worth stripping and greasing the handbrake mech within the drum itself, I've done mine and it's like new, better in fact than the direct entry handbrake on Julie's with a new cable.
