Not local but whats the problem? Regularly set up sky on our Caravan and it's not all that hard.

The screen shows "No satellite signal is being received", I've tried all the helpful things on the sky website to no avail, the only thing i can think of is the LNB has moved and isn't picking up the signal.

What I need is someone to check out the alignment for me.

Sky don't want to know because I don't subscribe, I just use it for the free stuff.

you can check signal strength on the sky services menu, but i cant remember which one but i think its setup

also sky boxes like a reboot now and again (ie power it off, leave it off 30 secs, then boot up)

the latter normally cures signal problems with us :)

Press Services

4

6

This should show a screen with the signal and the sat it's locked to or not locked to.

If it was working and now it isn't then best bet is a reboot first. Switch off leave for 30 seconds and switch on.

If that doesn't work then it's most likely in my experience that the sat dish may have moved sideways. Get the ladders out and with the above screen showing - Services - 4 then 6 get someone to watch wile you give the dish a tweak to the left a few degrees then back to the right if nothing.

The Dish should be pointing at around 28.8 degrees which is SSE or there abouts. The right elivation required should be evident by rust / newness visible on the dish mount assuming it's a pre-existing setup.

The above should get you back hopefully.

Usually the first indicator it's working is the background music comes on which is the same as you get when surfing the listings on Sky.

On some boxes even though you are showing locked to the sat stream  0002
and network 07d4 you need to switch the box on and off for it to start rec the channels. Others just kick straight in. You will see a signal bar, I've had a picture with as little as a third of the signal bar lit up on the screen although the worse the signals the more cloud / bush etc etc effects the viewing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input here, I've tried most of the suggestions already except for the dish adjustment, this unfortunately is where it all goes horribly wrong, ladders and me just don't mix, that's why i need some willing person to wiggle me dish about for me.

Help still required but at least we're narrowing the options and with the good advice already given should be able to sort the problem, any other suggestions that might help would be gratefully received.

Special thanks go to Lee_D for his comprehensive "How To Do It"

The dish is the obvious suggestion but my old system went down with the same symptoms it turned out to be the tuner in the box itself, sky refused to repair it saying I should have payed the extra money for the service contract, my local TV repair guy sorted it for £50....don't get me started on self installing sky plus though
