And the other Officers of the Law on here
I know it's an old post (on another forum), but is this a car you would like your Chief Constables to requistion for you?
"Crikey Mate!!" (http://www.landroveraddict.com/smf/index.php?topic=357228.0)

Failing the acceptance of the Monaro, how about a 6.0 V8 Vectra (http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/modeloverview?modelid=4006)
Would that suffice??
It works out at about £21,600
Please Mr Vauxhall, can you import them?, so we can replace our Mondeo
-
The traffic cop in my old village usde to run a lotus Carlton. That was a nice sounding car, not much to look at but was impressive.
-
For goodness sake supporting GM when you guys drive Blue Oval stuff.....

When there's the possibilty of Vauxhall bringing the Commodore over............
Besides, as stated we already have a Mondeo

In answer to your question BTM, the Hants CC has kittens any time we go over 60mph! A Monaro VXR would make a very interesting Plod car. It is possibly the only car I would ever consider giving up my Disco for. Forgive me Father, please ignore those rash words, it was the Leffe speaking! I would not forsake the Disco!
My old Force? Well, that was a different story. They had a marked up Lotus which was used as a publicity thing, but was also the first force to use an R1 M/C on routine patrol. The lads who rode it loved the speed, but hated the riding position!
My two personal favourites were my old Area Car, a 1.8 Mondeo (old but worn in, a bit like me) and the 300Tdi Defender. That was a good old bus and had a handy turn of speed when necessary. I managed to get her airborne once. All in the cause! That Landy was immortalised as a model.
But now? as mentioned in another post, I now drive a desk.

Mind you, one of these with Police, Serving the Community, written on the side would be nice, especially on a Saturday in Pompey! :D

After seeing the 'real-life' Police programmes that show Portsmouth on a weekend, I can see your viewpoint.
The Bobbies in Wakefield could do with one at times as well

As the text in the other forum post I initally linked to stated; West Yorkshire Traffic (based near jct 41 of the M1) had one on test & every Officer who drove it loved it.
After all, one of its design features is to cover long distances (full shifts?) with the driver staying comfortable & also cover that ground at high speed.
I think 70MPH in 6th equates to about 1600RPM, now that's long legs!

Yes he means those over-paid, over-exposed, under-educated louts (& providers of overtime for the Bobbies who have to go & sort their so-called supporters out  )
-
hate to but in but how about one of these for a traffic car http://www.allpar.com/squads/police-cars/charger.html
-
The Chargers are getting a good reception on the other side of 'The Pond'
It would be a nice one over here, if the price was right (& they were RHD!)
As for MPG, it can't be much different to some of the higher performance cars used for pursuit purposes already.
Obviously it won't match the agility of the Imprezas some forces are using.
-
Try getting away from this, only good on road.

Surrey used to have an unmarked Impreza, I saw it around Byfleet a few times. I take it most of the interesting police cars are unmarked? Also saw a police RRC with big tyres and snorkel speeding through Clapham once.
-
oooh imprezas... i sooo want one of those...
-
belive it or not they even have pick up commadores [utes] in oz ,now theres a fast way to get to a plastering job

West Yorkshire have (from what I've seen & are told about)
Volvo V70
Octavia vRS (marked & unmarked)
Impreza
Golf R32(?)
Humberside have quite a few Imprezas apparantly

You can get them through firms like Bauer-Millet in Manchester & yes, they've got the same engine options as the saloons

Trust the Met to go one better! Met Police, The Box Force, namely if someone else has got a shiney toy, the Met have got a box to put it in! Bless 'em! :D

One of the scariest cars I ever drove in relation to the Job, was a 3.2 V6 Vectra, on my advanced driving course. Very light on the steering and throttle, very quick revving engine, went like a bullet in a straight line.
The only problem was it didn't like corners! It was limited to 155mph; I know due to the limiter coming in at that point and me thinking "Oh Crap!"
For all those that could say, 'danger to the public etc etc' , I found driving at that speed very knackering both mentally and physically, as I was having to think not only for myself but other road users as well. Not what I would call fun, but unfortunately necessary sometimes.
-
We have 2 impreza's one marked and one unmarked. However the car of choice for the traffic boys is the Skoda Octiva VRS, they just love them.
Sadly I only get to play in a Ford Focus or a transit van  oh and some times a skoda.
-
We use these
(http://www.met.police.uk/mpds/images/bmw.jpg)
The new ones still have the 'I' drive connected so you can set it how you want.
Nice and comfy, great as a motorway cruiser.
As for a pursuit car......................forget it :?
-
I had a look at one of these when I visited the Met Public Order School a couple of years ago.
Not good if you suffer from clostra, claustrp, clorstrap,............fear of enclosed spaces (and bad spelling!)
Needless to say, pants a response car!
-
Yep our traffic have a couple of those BMW's, they love them uprated engine and suspension, good on the corners they say and great in a straight line. Plus they can carry a horse.

But why? Why would your traffic bods want to carry a horse in their BMW? It would dump everywhere and it would not be a good replacement for HiViz signs or flashing lights! Trust me, I know horses, and they are good for nothing except turning money into poop, biting and kicking humans and occasionally making ladies happy! I don't how they do that, I wish I knew!
Oh gawd, too much Leffe. My tongue feels furry!

Well I take it you havn't met some of the lasses that fall out of the clubs fighting in a Friday night where I work... not a pretty sight at all... the local bop and pop (Night club) is know affectionally as the "Stables" for one reason only....SHUDDER
Lord Shagg-pyle you need to sell the nags and spend the money you save on a new defender! Hmmmmm I guess you would have to put up with some serious nagging then.

Well dear chap, it had crossed my mind, but it is a like the Sword of Damocles hanging over my head!
The deal was, the lasses get the horses, I get the Disco to 'help' transport the horses, horse poo, horse feed, horse blankets etc etc around, hence 'No horses, No Disco'!
SWMBO has suggested dumping the Disco to go for a smaller estate car. I suggested she be get rid of that idea, or I would look for a nubile female Landy babe and scoot off with my pension! Ha! that kept her quiet for all of a minute!
I am adding salt to the wound by saying " I really fancy a WW2 Wilys Jeep".
Its very nice out here in the doghouse, especially now the warm weather is getting closer.

SWMBO would have packed my bags and sent me packing with a "Yea right" comment! Then I would have got drunk up the local pub and crawled back home smelling of beer and slept it off in the garage... Opps that’s a memory I possibly shouldn't have shared!

That sounds like a normal night in the life of LSP!
