Title: Classic Air Springs
Post by: enak on May 25, 2007, 11:54:11
Just ordered replacement air spring bellows for my Range Rover from Island 4x4 in Kent (01795 580332).

£180 all in for a full set of bellows (just the rubber) and they'll be here on Tuesday.  (Due to the bank holiday).

They also do other stuff too as you can see in their ebay shop (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ISLAND-4X4) such as a full set of air springs (complete) for P38 for £250.

I'll be fitting them on Tuesday and will let you all know how it goes.

I've had the new bellows fitted for about a week now and all is well.

Fitting was fairly straight forward.  Hardest part is getting the old ones off.

Started by jacking the chassis till the damper was at full extension.

The bags leaked... Cause, splits were the bags were worn

The new bags offer a different shape, but that's just how they stretch

I cleaned the bottom mounting with a fine wire wheel

And the top mount was plenty clean enough

Last task was popping the new one on

When you pump the bags up... don't let the suspension down till it seats properly... video (http://www.kaneaston.co.uk/lse/easbad.wmv)

This is how it should go... video (http://www.kaneaston.co.uk/lse/easgood.wmv)

The ride is better... it's a little more mellow, I think the air springs feel more responsive.  And the Bilsteins have settled out a bit softer since first installing them.  But I still need to replace the Radius arm bushes.

P.S. The second link wasn't uploaded straight away as I had some trouble with my video editing software.

P.P.S. The aluminium hose is the cold air feed for my K+N air filter.
