has anyone got any advice how to turn an aircon compressor into an air compressor for tyres etc, i have heard of people who have done it but not seen one, anybody got piccies etc as a guide?
cheers for any help
-
I was thinking of bolting a normal compressor straight onto the motor on the aircon location with an adaptor plate and running a belt to it
-
i,ve got the aircon compressor already mounted as my disco has had aircon which now has no gas but as i dont want the aircon anyway thought i could use the compressor as an air compressor and switch it on as reqd using the clutch on the compressor then it runs only when i need it too
-
It's easier to do on some types that others... you got a piccy of yours ?
-
i have got a piccy but err how do i get it on here? better with spanners than pc,s

Thats the sort of thing I'm looking at doing, whats the tank, a truck one?
-
i,ve seen another one where its just plumbed to a fitting on the front grill with a relief valve to save the pump then you just plug on to tyre and switch on with engine running that way no tank needed as it only gets used to pump up tyres, when its finished you switch off
-
I bought the tank from http://www.onboardair.com but the air brake tank on a 5 ton truck is about the same size.
If you are gooing to make a system like this you really do need the tank, the compressor delivers high pressure air at a low volume, which is ok just for tyres but with a tank you can pump up a flat in less than 30 seconds, you can run an impact wrench or just about any other air tool.

Whats the compressor off?
I know I'll have to sort out the fan pullys out only got a standard non air con system n the 200 at the moment
-
I think it came of a v8 Disco. I bought it from someone on the LRO forum.
Mine was a standard 200 non air con Disco, I made up the mounting bracket for the compressor, and sourced a belt from the local spares shop.
