Title: Boosted performance in 200Tdi
Post by: DrT on May 28, 2007, 20:36:06
I have to say that I've been pleasantly suprised at the increase in engine performance just from fitting a Safari snorkel and a K&N air filter. Its given Gnasher a lot more grunt and he can now happily accelerate uphill in 5th gear!

Anybody else got some power increasing suggestions?

apparantly a bigger intercooler rad works well. When I fitted my snorkel it didnt give my disco any more "go"

and 5th gear, whats that?????? I only have 4 that change as and when they want too!

I'm toying with the idea of an uprated standards location intercooler, i don't think i can fit a full width one due to mounting my winch quite tight back towards the rad.....
Mine goes ok-ish, but is crap on fuel, i fear it will fail the mot on emmisions too.....

no.....? ours (110) will spin wheels on tarmac if you ask it to? in a disco you've obviously got different gearing, but at the same time you've also got smaller tyres.

its a known fact that one 200tdi can come from the factory in a completely different state of tune to the next..... just get your spanners out and tweak it a bit

I managed to wheel spin my disco today. It was pulling out of a road and went over a man hole cover! Oh and the front prop is off too. Oops. I so hoped the half shafts didnt go and they didnt luckily!

This might get me shot down in flames, but before it does, bear in mind that I'm struggling to comprehend it as well....

Guy over the road has a 200TDi 90 - K&N, Safari snorkel but no other engine mods.  He's just fitted a set of CYCLONES and swears by them!  He's comapred it to old on the same stretch of hill and reckons he has way more torque than before - now like I said, I'm struggling with this one, but he swears by it and I have no reason to disbeleive him..........

Fire away!

I fitted an ITG foam filter and advanced the turbo slightly. Mine goes really well, and will pull a trailer loaded uphill in fifth gear. I dont mean 3500kg. But my mates trailer is just under a ton, and i had three sets of tyres and and axle on it.

seems that cyclones give you a BIT more bottom end, but actually reduce your high end.

cyclonesdo work...abit, but to get more power
turn the diaphram 90 degree ( itll smoke abit....nuffin like my 90 tho   ....also it will raise the EGT temp aswel)

to counterbalance the added smoke, winde the wastgate on the turbo upto its max ( dont cut it down like some people will say    thats only if you've got a full width intercooler like me...or isnt bothered about changing head gaskets every 2k..like me   )

that should give it plenty of kick, my 90 span easily 1st and sometimes 2nd with that mod
and now it spins forever now its got a full width cooler    its that bad ive popped a cv on road
