i am currently 4X4less, sold my disco to Mace and rangie went today, did get a good price though mind you it was worth it, alot of hours went into it, but that is part of the fun.
anyway, cant make my mind up, i am only spending about £2000 so that gives me an option of,
1/ another rangie only a manual one this time.
2/ a ropey old knacker of a 90/110.
3/ an early well mantained disco if there is such a thing.
4/ backward step into a 88" series 3 but must be sorted.
5/ suzuki sj or vitara, hmmm dunno about that route.
any of you guys have any fors or againsts
i must admit i think if i could find a good manual rangie for about a grand i would buy, then spend a grand on bits and tyres.
-
90/110 would be my choice, mind u looked on the autotrader website last night to see loads of G/H plate tdi discos for £1500-£1700
that might be the best fun for your £

Daihatsu Fourtrak
Isuzu Trooper (Keep Tull company)
Might get a Toyota or Jeep in standard trim
-
Decent Series 3 for that money - buy mine and still have change :D
-
Your rangie - it wasn't a green one by any chance - grizzlies, cut back wings etc?
-
I'm selling a cracking series 3 - see the for sale forum
you'll have change as well - i'm practically giving it away
Paul

Great idea get a trooper, spend £700 and keep adding up the bills, i hear more cash on the horizon Cvs sounded well dodgy today im sure I could get a different beast for what its costing me . Mind you at the end I should have a good motor. The MOT i got was obviously well dodgy.

Save a bit of money for a darkened room to go and sit in now and again.

1/ why go back and do the same thing again, you'll only wish you'd not sold the orginal
2/ i could have sold you my old knacker for £2000. You'd have been married to it forever :D It's not enough for a 110 full stop and a 90 will be very near the knackers yard if you don't throw money at it as soon as you get it.
3/ don't even go there mate. there is no such thing. 3x the price and you might be close. and don't believe a word thats written about FSH. I drove several that had FSH but were absolute pigs.
4/ my mate is selling his Lightweight if you want something different for £2K
5/ no comment, honest, no comment

Plenty of RRC about for under a grand, leaving you the same again to sort it out. Honestly, no one seems to want them at the moment and I've been asked loads of times if I want another (god no, one is enough).
-
Get the zuk, a nice pink one with "FAT Boy" alloys..... :)
Go on, we all need a laugh...
Don't forget it's a Jap motor too so more time playing, less time fixing.....
-
OK!!! Enough with the Zook Bashing!!! Your making us zook drivers feel unloved

What's wrong with a £2k Disco? That's exactly what mine (well, SWMBOs) cost. H reg 200tdi, no problems (so far) except self inflicted ones.
-
I only met your Rangie once, and that time it broke down!!
There's an L reg Disco for sale in the garage down the road from me for £1895. I presume it's a V8 at that price - might be worth a look.
-
personally i would go for a 2.4 or 2.5 vm td rangie.cheap to run,no cam belt to break,no ecu timing to cause proplems ,can be a bit noisey old things cos mine is but i would buy another one anyday.had mine in water two inches from roof lining and still running if you want pop round i can tell more on how these motors perform.
-
2" from the roof lining...
If it's like most Rangies that's about 1" above the seats then

that might be a good option mate, i do love rangies, the only thing is finding a good one, i will look in the new auto trader tomorrow, spose i will spend this weekend looking at rubbish that people class as "mint" or "vgc"

just been and looked at it , its red £1995 and the worst possible engine configuration "MPi" what a terrible engine that is for a disco  i should imagine it will sit on the forecourt for a long time to come.
-
And what wrong with a MPi? I had one for about 2 years a little under power for towing I'll grant you. But it did the job ok until some prat rammed the rear end

Apologies xmob, but I searched for months and couldn't find a decent one, in our neck of the woods anyway. Always pleased to be proved wrong :D
