Title: wheels and tyres again

big greens getting ready for some new rubber,so i thought id get some thing decent,at present im on 750x16 on steel wheels
im being told that to fit 235/80x16s i need to change my wheels as well
ive looked for the j no to confirm this but all i can find is this
5.50F x 16 x 33
can any one enlighten me as to what size/s will fit legally and more important safely,or do i really need to spend more hard earned cash
the vehicles a td5 110 station wagon disc brakes all round,

ps only wanting to change size to take advantage of the larger choice
of good quality all terains on the market

Post by: Wolfie on May 31, 2007, 08:30:10: Yes, you'll need to change wheels as the 5 1/2 inch rim is too narrow to fit a 235 onto. The equvalent diameter tyre to a 7.50 is actually a 235/85 x 16.

Looking at the BFG specs (http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs/all-terrain-t-a-ko/44.html), a minimum wheel width of 6 inches is necessary, but I think that most of the aftermarket wheels (modulars etc) usually come as a 7 inch.

Most landrover wheels are 33mm offset, an easy and relativerly cheap solution is to get some disco steel wheels, they are the same spec apart from the width which means you can fit tyres up to a 265mm wide on them. Alternatively aftermarket steel wheels (typically modulars and 8 spokes) tend to have a different offset, meaning you won't lose much or any steering lock if you fit bigger tyres.

Do you have any documentary evidence for this?

I have looked on Microcat (the advantages of having a helpful local dealer) and Discovery steel wheels are listed as an option based on the chassis number of my 110.

Interesting point.

What should 110 wheels be rated at? And does it depend on whether its a sation wagon or 1 ton etc. spec 110.

No :oops:

I will try & find out if they are rated for the gvw of a 110.
I have also heard of the Disco steels cracking whilst on 110's.

My Wolf wheels are a good bet, I do need to get some longer studs at some point though!
