Title: Computer technical support
Post by: Bob696 on June 02, 2007, 17:44:00
New PC ... blown motherboard ..... 21 days to get it fixed.

It was fixed on wensday used it for an hour then went to wales. Got back tried to look at pics to find that the card reader dosn't work.

Ring up the tech support. The result after 45 mins was a computer that wouldnt boot up at all!!!!! Told the guy to flip off I would fix it myself.

30 mins and it was up and running again.

I wont name the company as I am sure most of you can guess  :P

Good job it was a good price!

That'll be the one that rhymes with "Hell" then?

I'll bet they hadn't wired the card reader up to the header on the board

Would that be because you don't really need it? In the 25 years I've been using macs I've only rung apple support about 3 times - I've had problems with the hardware giving up and needing repair a couple of times  but didn't need apple support for that.

Macs just work period

I would rather eat razor blades. Pay twice the price for half the spec and a nice case

In 20 years of owning computers I have never had cause to ring a help line before. Next time I will do what I have always done in the past and build my own machine.

it may be half the spec, but the 1.25 ghz, 512mb ram powered powerbook g4 i have that is 4 years old still runs alot better and faster than most new machines, try to remember that macs dont have all the cluttering crap that microsoft put in so dont need so much power to make it run fast!

on the plus side as well this g4 is second hand, i know the person who had it from new, and he only had to do a special reboot (holding down the power button for 10 secs) once, and i havent had to do it yet, how many windows pc's can you say have been that good?

The three that I built? All are still running happily serving different purposes. Occasionaly they need a little tweaking but generaly not much.

The oldest is around 8-9 years old and has the same spec as your G4.

Comparing Macs and PCs is like comparing a mitsi warrior bling machine with an old landy. One costs a fortune is lovely and shiny but isnt worth poo when its gets serious and you cant do a lot of modding to it, the other is cheaper needs more easy maintance, has nothing to beat it and you can change bits of it on a whim 'just to see'.

If you are happy with an ultra reliable, underpowered, overly expensive chelsea tractor then who am I to argue with you. Me, I would rather eat razor blades.

i dont see how you can say its underpowered? if it was underpowered then it would struggle to keep up with other machines instead of passing them when their on the hard shoulder!

Hey if you want to spend £700 on a machine that has the same specs as a machine I would buy for just over half that just to be safe thats your choice.

This thread was about computer technical support as apples are so good I dont see how you could make comments on it    LOL
