Title: rear Prop re-fit
Post by: suggs on June 03, 2007, 19:51:20
Hi all

been off playing today and ripped my rear prop off, the rubber UJ gave way and spat the dummy out..lol

anyway ive removed the other UJ with the shaft/spigot on it (not sure of the correct name) from the transfer box end, so it dosent spin around  when driving.

anyway ive noticed now that its all off, the prop wont easly slide back onto the shaft, is it just a case of tapping it on?, when looking into the prop down the splines theres a section with no splines a bit like a keyway, but it dosent seem to match up with anything on the shaft, is it just for the greese to flow down?

am i right in thinking that to get the rubber UJ and prop to line up with the Diff once its connected to the transfer box end, i just turn the wheels untill it lines up..

cheers

You could convert to a 200 prop and change the flange on the diff, do away with that horrible rubber thing

Dunno if its much stronger, but its certainly cheaper and easier to get bits for if it goes bang in the middle of no-where..........

I'm gonna do mine eventually, but its waaaaaay down the list for now!

The rubber is supposed to make things smoother, but if you give it grief off road they tend to break as you are obviously aware. I also chucked mine away and fitted the axle and propshaft from my 200tdi.
