Right......
thats a alt & pas belt dead after 2 weekends of heavy winching,
just broke on the way home so now i put this to you all,
200 or 300
Ps any one know where i can get a short R380?
Or a TD5
-
300  "Bound to say that... as its the only one i have experience of"
-
200...
bombproof  8)

300  "Bound to say that... as its the only one i have experience of"
and me lol :D

voted 300
I said that cos I figured that if the 200 was any good then LR wouldnt had introduced the 300.
....and because i have one, Im biased!
lol

200 every time
It may rattle and clank a bit more than a 300 but as said before they are bombproof.
Very little in the way of electronic gizmos to go wrong.
wizard
-
Mr wizard what electric gizmos does my 300 have that a 200 doesnt?
-
 again...do we have to
200 for me everytime as i just think there more up and go when you hit the loud pedal, the 300's take some time to pick up,
but once up and running there like a train
+ points for engine... bigger alt as std
serpintine belt
cambelt easy peasy
but even so, i still wouldnt have one
mike, when i was on conventional car batterys for the winches i was eating a alt belt every outing, but since i fitted yellow tops the belt eating has stopped due to the alt not having to work as hard
ok i still change the pas belt often, but only if running low pressures on the tyres, if stay to 22psi the belt is fine
its just a big can of worms but i still prefer the 200, power and response is there instantly were as the 300 picks up a few seconds later
just my opinion

300 for me.
It's a more tractible engine with a more progressive power delivery. It'll tune up further than a 200 too.
Not many folk race 200s.
Any delivery issues with the 300 I would put down to a lax fuel pump.

everyone ive driven has been the same

wooohoooo 200 is winning!!

In my experience, they've been as powerful, but the 200 drives like a turbo with an engine fitted. The power delivery once it spins up is quite 'in your face'.
The 300 gets up to the same ultimate speeds, it just does it more progressively, which can go some way to hiding the power. You don't get that same sense of 200 'surge' - which I'll admit is a great sensation. I do like driving Wolfies 200 8)

it cries out for a derv
-
derv is the way forward
get it... you know... forward... the way forward... ok i thought it was funny....
ive had a long day in this stoooopid prison.
-
derv is the way forward in water anyhow as the v8s stop :P
-
indeedy.

just got my renewal quote from Adrian Flux, its under £200 and they've still overcharged me. It's not the insurance that's the problem, it's the cost of the LPG conversion.
Derv engines go better in water - I'll give that one - although V8's can be well sorted with a bit work. However, mine spends 99.9% of its time out of water, it has all the power and sounds amazing (not like a tractor).
V8 vs nasty derv - me thinks we've had this discussion before and you'll never, ever win

a diesel can be made to sound nice, just wont ever have the natural balance of a v8 due to it being a inline 4pot
so what bout the v6 dervs then... ? whats wrong with them, they sound sweeter than a v8 pertol

2.8 power torque version with the variable vane turbo. From what i have read it will blow a standard TDI away.
Sorry to be difficult.
-
and spend the rest of the year fitting it
cost a bomb mite aswel fit a td5

I've heard them barking in the forest at Langdale and other off road places, and often wondered what I need to do to my 200 to make it sound like that.
So what do I need to do?
-
Straight through exhaust. no silencers nothing. Or if you want it a little more civilised i bellive you can add a TD5 tail pipe to a custom front section.
Ok then maybe a 2.8 is a little for fetched. I would go for a 200 with a decent turbo and moving the alt up to where the aircon pump would mount so to keep it away for 50% of the muck you nutters drive in.

Not too difficult then. I'm already half way there, taken the centre silencer out and put straight through pipe there. Just need to take the rear one out.

That a damn good idea. I'll have to look into doing that.
