Ive just completed the 200tdi conversion, I started the thing no probs, but then a couple of minutes later, it slowly died, and wouldnt restart, I suspect its fuel, can anyone give me an accurate route for the fuel pipes on a 200tdi with 200tdi filter! With some purpose taken pics if poss!!!

take a picture of your set up and show us
did you bleed the fuel system before staring ?? as air would have got in when the pipes were removed
have you tried pumping the lift pump ?

I asked about bleeding when I started the conversion and everyone said it is a self bleeding system, it doesnt need done???
-
You still need to prime it up to the filter - there's not enough in the galleries of the FIP to allow it to run long enough to fill the filter and sedimenter and all the pipework. By self bleeding folk usually mean that theres no need to bleed the FIP itself like you used to have to do in the old days........
Just to be on the safe side - whip the filter off now and just check to see if its full - if it is then you may have something else wrong!
-
Filter was half full, or half empty, depending your outlook on life!!! I put new fuel lines in so they will be full of air too!!!
Ill bleed it.

 Just had a similar problem with daughters RR tdi after ministrations from the prat at her garage in Norwich. This pillock said it had an air lock and took all the pipes off, then reconnected them using the return fuel pipe as the feed to the pump. So it was drawing air in as that pipe doesn't go to the bottom of the tank. Swapped the feeds around now runs like a goodun.
Should add found that after a 250 mile round trip with Ifor Williams on to recover the beast. He also said he didn't think it needed any welding for the MOT. So far, passenger side cill and rear body X member
The same guy serviced next doors Beemer and the sump plug fell out after 5 miles so a £3000.00 bill for a new engine, a man to be avoided I think.

I had similar probs when converting to diesel, my so called empty petrol tank turned out have about a litre or so of petrol, it wouldnt stay running , cut out after a minute or two, then I got air dragged in via the fuel filter heater, it wasnt seated properly. Real easy problems, but a [!Expletive Deleted!] to find when you are a bit stressed.

prime the system up using the lift pump, undo the vent screw on the top of filter housing to let all the air out and the old girl will run

I dont have a bleed screw on the filter housing!!! There a drain on the bottom :? :? and no, its not upside down!!!
-
there is, if youve used the tdi filter housing like you said then there is
its infront of the big banjo bolt on the top, its a 10mm spanner job or can use the scewdriver slot thats also init

   Couldnt see the woods for the trees!!!
1. Open the bleed screw
2. Pump like mad, until fuel comes out
3. Close Screw
4. Start Engine
5. Grab Cuppa
Is this correct??
If so, how long do I pump and why is there no fuel coming out when I took the filter off and pumped??
-
so there was no fuel coming out when pumped ?
try cranking the engine over by the key and see if fuel comes out, as you need the lift pump in a certain place to operate cos of it being cam driven, if the primer felt slack with no resistance then you need to turn the engine over abit
if no joy, ill go out and get some pics of my 90 tomorrow for you as currently so wouldnt be able to make anything out under the bonnet as i aint washed it off after weekends comp yet

Please Dan, that will be helpful. The lever did feel a little slack. Im going to undo the fuel pipe that goes to the filter at the pump to see if there is fuel coming straight out the lift pump, if not, then I will check the line to the pump, but a few pics of the route will be great.
Cheers
