Sussex Police are putting extra officers on the streets during the full-moon
BBC link (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/6723911.stm)
I'm surprised to see that it states that there's never been a medically proven link between the Moon & unbalanced behaviour!
After all, where does the Beeb think that the word 'Lunacy' come from (ie; Lunar)
Plus, if the Moon can influence the bodies of water on this world & create the tides, why can't it affect the blood within the human Brain? (or the surrounding Cerebrospinal fluid)
We always joke at work that we'll get more 'Numptys' through the doors (be they walking/staggering, in Ambulances, or handcuffed to a Bobbie) during that phase of the Moon.
-
Some friends of mine used to run residential care homes, and they reckoned the full moon made a difference to the mental state of the inmates. Can't say we've noticed anything in school. The kids are quite strongly affected by wind and rain though.
The effect of the microgravity of the moon on body fluids will be drowned out by other factors in any constantly moving body. A bit like tides don't affect rivers. I'd guess if there is a link it's to do with the body's natural timing cycles and probably connected to hormone production.

i use to live close to a mental hospital, and they were definately more "vocal" on a full moon, And i have also noticed more "situations" happening on the railway on these occasions :?

Sorry but someone had to say it  , & yes i'll get my coat

because they are mad as hatter's
Now, do you know where that phrase comes from??
(and it's not too far from my place of work)
-
Now, do you know where that phrase comes from??
Isn't it something to do with mercury(or other chemical) used in a manufacturing process.
-
Murcury was used to put a shine on top hats

Funnily enough that topic came up on the Jeremy Vine show today.
He was discussing the EU's proposal to ban mercury in thermometers & barometers.
Hat makers used to use mercury to smooth & polish the felt on hats & long term exposure would make them "Mad as a Hatter"
-
I've noticed that there's definately more @excitement' when the moon is full. Used to tell the area manager that if there was ever a full moon on Friday 13th I was shutting the outlet for the night.
I'm in my current position due to events during a full moon..
Superstitious? Moi? Hell yes.
-
I dunno about the lunar cycle but there's one type of cycle that turns my Missus into a nutter for one week a month.
I wonder if there is a connection?
Re: Mercury
It was bought up on the JV show that they are banning non-essential mercury yet there are no plans to ban the mercury in dental amalgum. Strange? Not really, mercury amalgum is the cheapest type. You can have white porcelain amalgum but not on the NHS.

'Muck'
It does indeed, the fumes from heated Mercury attacked the brain & the nervous system.

The first inhabitant of the West Riding Lunatic Asylum (later known as Stanley Royd; next door to Pinderfields Hospital) was a milliner, ie: a hat-maker
Yes I listened to that too, I'd like to see the EU's view on the Tempest Prognosticator that the chap from Barometer World has in his collection
They'd probably say it was cruel to Leeches

I don't know about anyother Police officers or emergency workers, but I agree 100% with him, on a full moon it always seens to get busy!
Funny that!
-
I wholeheartedley agree. It has always been noticeable that it is busy on nights with a full moon. I'm just surprised that a Police Force has actually gone on record and said it!
I'm surprised that there has not been more 'exttaction of urine' going on!
-
A friend on mine has told me the officer in question is a little peeved at his force press officer.....
I'm always careful what I say when our press officer is around!
-
Perhaps I should get the press officer to say that extra patrols are going to be put out to stop excessive consumption of Candy Floss on the seafront, to curb the incidents of people going loopy after too much sugar!
Hmm, actually, thats not a bad idea!

Its either that, or I get at cushy job at Ivory Towers and do a bit of empire building by setting up a 'stupid ideas that we can punt out to the Press and make ourselves a laughing stock' department. Oh damn, sorry. I can't do that, we all ready have a Press Office!
