Title: turbo on a non turbo????
Post by: tjsj on June 12, 2007, 11:05:47
Hi. I have a ford fiesta 1.8 n/a diesel and was wondering how hard it would be to put a turbo off of another ford 1.8 turbo diesel engine? I know I would have to change the intake system and manifold but is it do'able as I thought the engines are basically the same???

You may/will need to:

Change intake system and probobly fit an intercooler if one os normally fitted.

If an ECU is used, it will need to be updated ro changed, otherwise fuelling may need to be adjusted.

Vacuum lines will need to be added/rerouted for any wategate. You will need to lay on an oil supply and possibly water too for the turbo.

Exhaust will need modification, so you'll want the manifold, turbo and probobly the downpipes, possibly the whole system.

This is off the top of my head from the list of mods on my own VAG 10VT engine.

Oh I forgot, you might need to lower the compression ration too, so a head spacer or something along those lines. Simon is right though, you'd be better off getting a turbo lump.

my bro has two of the NA 1.8 fords in his boat and looked into turboing them.
apparently there are differences in the blocks between the turbo and non turbo engines, so he is gonna just buy 2 turbo engines
