Title: Favourite summer song??
Post by: dreadnought110 on June 14, 2007, 21:04:06
This is mine it's spot on 8)  8)    The Divine Comedy The Pop Singer's Fear of the Pollen Count Lyrics
Are you ready?
OK, let's do it
1,2,3,4
Woo, ah ha, yeah
Ba ba da ba da ba da ba da
Oh yeah

Laugh at the tears you're crying
Smile while your head explodes
Y'don't have to take this lying down
So blow your nose baby
And just get your fingers clicking
To the rhythm and the rhyme
Otherwise you'll just be kicking around
And that's a crime

How can you talk that way
On such a lovely day?
When sunshine comes your way
It's time to make some hay

I fall for this season every time
When it's hot and everybody smiles
I can't help myself
I'm in love with the summertime
Even when I get hay-fever I find
I may sneeze but I don't really mind
As long as I'm in love with the summertime

Oh stop your belly-aching
We all know what it's like
There ain't a pill I haven't taken I guess
But that's alright baby
'Cause your daddy's car is waiting
To take us to the sea
She feels like celebrating life
And so should we

How can you talk that way
On such a lovely day?
When sunshine comes your way
It's time to make some hay

I fall for this season every time
When it's hot and everybody smiles
I can't help myself
I'm in love with the summertime
Even when I get hay-fever I find
I may sneeze but I don't really mind
As long as I'm in love with the summertime
CLAP YOUR HANDS!

(Clap clap!)

To my mind, the ultimate summer (driving) song must be this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPLfPHap_j0)

Admittedly it's not my favourite (of all time) song, but it's just the sheer longing within it

This Steve Earle song comes close though
Sweet Little 66 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL-Wlb_xSPQ)

both are on the CD in my landrover at the mo, and seem to get played more than a lot of the other 200 tracks on there

Morcheeba - Part of the Process  8)

Sweeeeeeeet!

Reminds me of the times tearing up and down the Bourne Gorge in the Vecor Massiff with Wolfie in the 110. Sun blazing, windows down and the 'Big Calm' album on the minidisc. Awesome scenery (hot rock and big drops), awesome company (about 50 potholers in one campsite), awesome caving (mind-blowing stuff). Good do.  8)

Cheers

Stuart Maconie opened his Saturday afternoon show on Radio 2 with this classic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUg7OO1gZk0) yesterday.

It's still a corker, & Maconie said it was only a 100 seconds long!!!!
(not quite as good as 'Teenage Kicks', but still great stuff :D )

"Dreamer" by Supertramp

Dreamer, you know you are a dreamer
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no!
I said dreamer, you're nothing but a dreamer
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no!
I said "Far out, - What a day, a year, a laugh it is!"
You know, - Well you know you had it comin' to you,
Now there's not a lot I can do

Dreamer, you stupid little dreamer;
So now you put your head in your hands, oh no!
I said "Far out, - What a day, a year, a laugh it is!"
You know, - Well you know you had it comin' to you,
Now there's not a lot I can do.

Well work it out someday

If I could see something
You can see anything you want boy
If I could be someone-
You can be anyone, celebrate boy.
If I could do something-
Well you can do something,
If I could do anything-
Well can you do something out of this world?

Take a dream on a Sunday
Take a life, take a holiday
Take a lie, take a dreamer
dream, dream, dream, dream, dream along...

Dreamer, you know you are a dreamer
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no!
I said dreamer, you're nothing but a dreamer
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no!
OH NO!

I always think of this song when i come back of holiday it's so poignant 8)  8)  and can't help but think of dido...

two weeks away feels like the whole world should have changed
but i'm home now, and things still look the same
i think i'll leave it till tomorrow to unpack, try to forget for one more night
that i'm back in my flat
on the road where the cars never stop going through the night
to a life where i can't watch the sun set, i don't have time, i don't have time

i've still got sand in my shoes and i can't shake the thought of you
i should get on, forget you but why would i want to
i know we said goodbye, anything else would have been confused
but i want to see you again

tomorrow's back to work and down to sanity
should run a bath and then clear up the mess i made before i left here
try to remind myself that i was happy before i knew that i could get
on a plane and fly away
from the road where the cars never stop going through the night
to a life where i can watch the sun set and take my time, take all our time

two weeks away, all it takes, to change and turn me around i've fallen
i walked away, and never said, that i wanted to see you again

i've still got sand in my shoes and i can't shake the thought of you
i should get on, forget you but why would i want to
i know we said goodbye, anything else would have been confused
but i want to see you again
