Been thinking about getting a compressor for some time, cant really justify the expense right now. The unit at the end of the industrial estate I work on had one left outside for a few days and last night I went over and asked about it, thinking I can recycle the tang and switchgear at least.

'Oh it sounds like its going to explode, I wouldnt power it up if I were you, the piston has gone. But feel free, it wasnt working too well before it died either.'
Nice ClarkeAir jobbie too. Soo Off I trot thingking that for a small compressor, its bloody heavy.

Fire it up and home and it makes an awful racket, pop the cowling off and find the hub of the fan is no longer attached to the fan itself and as I turn the motor by hand its going 'clackaclackclack' fan off and checked seals, bearings etc and its like new. Cool. Removed 10 litres of water from the tank too and it now seems to hold pressure just a wee bit better :)

Anyone have any idea how to stop condensation build up in the tank? I cant see any way to fit an air drier as it has a dodgey clip-in intake filter rather than a proper fitting like my dinky one.

I don't think you can actually stop condensation taking place inside the tank without a lot of work.  The few compressors I've used have always had a drain off point to drain out from inside the tank.

This one did, just hadnt ever been used. Have stored it with the drain open and given the inside of the tank a good coating of light oil to try and deal with the rust in there.

All I can remember is the ones we had in the garage had inline bottle traps to collect the water, sorry it's not much help, but that was a good find :lol:

Another tip is to wax oil the inside of the tank. We used to do this with all the tanks at the place I use to work at.

If the tank is weakened by rust.... it will make a nice bang when it pops :D
