Title: Battery problems
Post by: freelanderpx54 on June 16, 2007, 19:31:41
The Disco's engine cut out as I was driving yesterday. When I tried to restart it the auto box and manual box lights were flashing indicating a fault with the autobox electrickery. Green flag came out and trailered me home. Tried it again and the battery appeared flat (wouldn't turn over) Put the booster cables on and squirted a drop of eazi start in the intake and the engine started and has continued to do so. Tested the battery and it isn't holding its charge so could the battery be causing the fault???

In High Range S stands for Sports Mode - it delays the gear change and is reported to be good for towing as well.
In Low Range M stands for Manual and the auto lever acts as a manual gear change.

The Td5 engine, along with all its electrickery does like a good battery - although I've had duff batteries on both my D2 auto and 110, the M&S lights have not come on at the same time on the Disco.

Can you borrow another battery to try ?, before forking out for a new one (get the biggest CCA rated one that will fit in the space)

As for the M&S (Manual mode, and Sport mode) lights, I've had them come on a couple of times - on each occasion the 'box has gone into limp-home mode (it sticks in 3rd and won't kick-down), but after a reboot (ignition off, and back on   ) the problem cleared.........this was whilst the truck was still under warranty, testbook showed that a 'fault' had occured, but whatever was faulty wasn't anymore.
