Title: Optima Batteries
Post by: jjsaul on June 18, 2007, 23:04:34
Optima Batteries...red top etc...

Worth the extra money?

I'm looking for opinions of people who use them rather than reading advertising blurb from everyone trying to take my money off me...

I had an optima for years . And icant fault it.

If you look on Eblag, there was a guy doing red for not alot more than a maintenance free battery. Well worth themoney i think.

I had a look at them on ebay, £89.99 from the Battery man, I dont think they are the Optima Batteries we are used to!!! They look different.

Ive just bought a new Red top, it has a sticker on top saying it was made last month, and its flat!!! So much for them holding charge for 2 years when disconnected!!!!

Are they not sent like that on purpose incase they are on the shelf for a while.

I know some batteries are tested via pulse charging, just to ensure they work.

I've had red and yellow tops and wouldnt buy them again, total rip off for an average battery.

I was given a date expired ex MOD red top Optima seven years ago. I have only last month replaced it with a new one (from the battery man on Ebay £89)  This one is slightly different, the posts are on the centre line instead of towards one edge, and it is taller than the old one. It is however stamped Optima and he assured me it is commercal rather than retail stock, therefore cheaper. Lets see if this one lasts as long as the last one, if it does then £89 is good value.
