Post by: Artwigwa on June 30, 2007, 17:10:43
Help! I'm lost about oil grades!!, I have a Td90 with a 19J engine which is due for a oil change, trouble is Haynes Manual say use SAE 5W/30 to 25W/50. Which grade would be best to go for  :?  Engine is at 85 thousand :!:  :?:

I use 10w40 from Halfrauds or ,Tesco do Castrol for £13.99 a gallon. Semi synthetic. I use it in both my 1984 110 with 2.5nad and my 200Tdi Discovery. :)

We have 4 3mw generators at work. They are v12 MAN engines. The same as used in some locomotives. They too use 15w40. But they have engine oil preheaters. This is why they use the thicker oil. Its the same viscocity when up to temprature. Just means its a bit thick when cold. :)
